What did you do in the garden today?

This happened to us a couple of years ago when we replaced a spigot that wasn't working from before we even moved in....we ended up needing to go into the wall through the bathroom to fix the pipe and everything. 😅 It was a mess. It works great now though, lol.
Yeah, plumbing problems are fun. Not! The pipe my spigot attached to goes straight down into the ground, through an asphalt driveway surface. Last thing I wanted to do was break up the asphalt and dig down to the main line to replace the pipe. My not-quite-correct fix is good enough for me. It works, that's all that matters.

The simple job of replacing the worn out garden hose spigot turned into an all day mess. I bought a new spigot, then removed the old one from the 3/4" pipe. It came off easy.

But the threads on the end of the pipe were totally messed up. Half of the threaded end was missing. I don't know how it didn't leak.

I tried cleaning up the threads with files, but there just wasn't enough thread to securely attach the new spigot. After searching HomeDepot.com for a solution, I bought a 3/4" compression coupling and a 4 inch nipple. After cleaning up the old pipe, I put it all together and it works. No Leaks!

Should've cost $15 to fix. Ended up spending about $100. But that included a 30 pak of beer, which I needed for hydration while working. LOL

That's the sort of day/week I've had. I'm about 1000 bucks deeper than I'd ever planned.

OK, looking for help or insight into what is killing my plants... It all started with the Madame Blue roses which are up by my house around late March or early April. Then it was the blueberries by the house (also around that time). I feel like it started when I pruned everything. Until then, it was all thriving... And YES, I disinfected my pruners before each plant.

All of this is probably not related to each other but different things...

Peach roses by the house. These are right next to the Madame Blue. They have been fine and healthy until this week. I'm thinking Black spot maybe?

Brand new White roses I planted by the house in a different bed that's next to the peach roses.

Purple tea roses in the garden, at least 400 ft from the house. These also started going downhill after I pruned them. I tried to save by pruning out the disease but it doesn't make a difference. The entire left side is basically dead and now the right side is dying too.

Potatoes are turning brown and crispy too.

Double Gold raspberry were going gangbusters. Suddenly the canes that were developing fruit just turned crispy brown and died for no reason. None of the non-fruit bearing canes are affected. These are also in the garden about 40 feet south of the purple tea roses but right next to a pink tea rose that (so far) is still healthy.

But while taking pictures, I did find the first strawberry of the season. 😊

Soooo, All my ideas for cutting those angles were a washout.
I am now the poorer but proud owner of another double-bevel compound miter power saw. I'm glad Harbor Freight rescued me from Lowe's.

However, there was no time to actually get anything done today on the chicken run. That fridge fiasco sucked it all away. And tomorrow we have storms all day again.

I'm doing my best to put on my happy face, but I've only got 2 days left of 5 I took off from work, thinking I'd have this project done the second day. All I've got done is the 4 foundation boards. LOL

My 14 chicks have been transferred to an old chicken tractor from a couple of years ago. It's terrible as a portable pen, but fine as a temporary holding cage until I get the run completed - hopefully before I go back to work. 😁

They are very happy to be out of the brooder and flapping their wings with exuberance. I gave them a cardboard box to sleep in if they wish, a nice branch to roost on, and a tire to play inside. Storms tonight, so the tarp is weighed down all over the place.

I need 8 clones of me. Younger me. LOL

That looks fantastic, go you!
Thank you! I'm pretty proud of it!
Maybe you already mentioned it in a previous post, but what auger did you use? Thanks.
We got this one from Menards. It vibrates my hands something fierce, so I had my husband do almost all of the augering. It was much better than digging with a shovel!
If all else fails, ask the neighbor's. I bet they know.
I doubt they would know because our house is set back from the road and no neighbors are in view from our yard.

I know zero, zip, nada about roses. Always wished for a rose garden though.
I'm interested in hearing the responses!

Yay, Strawberries!!!

I'm in upstate PA. Last day of my staycation. It was a glorious spring day, mostly sunny, temps in the upper 60s. Crabapple are in full flower. Lilacs are starting to bloom. Honeysuckle is coming soon. Just about all the trees have baby leaves, and a couple of the maples are starting to cast some true shade.

Memorial Day weekend is our "safe" time to plant out, but even then you're taking a chance. ( My brother was born on June 10th in an ice storm 😮. )

Knowing full well it's too early, I still spent $50 on bedding plants today! Chicken math and plant math are all but the same thing LOL.

I also bought lumber to put a raised bed around my run.

Lettuce, corn salad, kale, and rocket salad seeds are all sprouted in the bunny garden. I planted dandelion seeds too, but they haven't come up. Blows my mind that they grow like weeds all over my yard, but I can never get them to grow in the garden where I want them. *grump*

Google earth and zoom in, maybe there's a flag there, or a shadow. LOL

I dug up more Dandelions and separated the leaves from the stems from the roots from the flowers, and I scrubbed clean the roots to make more tinctures and wash the leaves for salads … and my neighbor told me about a Dutch Amish greenhouse place where they have a great selection of herbs and vegetables, ready to plant for affordable prices I’m so happy I went there and got a trunk load! lMy little plants are antidepressants .. they encourage me and give me the incentive to get the garden ready so I can plant them
