What did you do in the garden today?

I got the grass cut in Poplar Bluff and then went to my daughter’s to help plan her baby shower. It’s her 1st baby. A boy due August 17th. Then back home where I have chicks hatching!

8 out so far. 2 more working on it and 12 more that I’m waiting to see what they are going to do.

I weeded a little in the strawberry bed, gave a tour of my garden and projects, and shared some downtime in the garden swings.

Two girlfriends came over and, as a late birthday gift, brought dinner along and helped me get the last of my structure up and screwed together. What a blessing! I'll always think of this when I look outside and see the chicken house.

I also showed them how to make water kefir and bottle it up for a second ferment, while we drank some of an earlier bottling I had chilled. They loved it and took grains home with them.

Is this a chicken coop? I wonder how it will turn out?

Thankfully I didn't eat them because an expert later confirmed they were not and were actually poisonous. Do not simply look up pictures and descriptions online. It is not worth your family's life. ☠️
Oh No! I wouldn't do that...well, I did do that, but I would never just eat them based on what the internet says. I'm asking everyone everywhere, in the hope of finding a local expert who's recommended by a variety of sources.

They are Nigerian Dwarf. They are so tiny! I can't imagine how small pygmies would be!

NDs are adorable! Pygmies are too.
I was shocked to read an article that said pygmies are selling for 1000 bucks each these days. I should have kept my herd and been a wealthy woman. LOL They make wonderful pets and, if you have the right bloodlines, good little milkers, too.

I hope well! LOL

It's a triangular run. I've got it framed in. I hope today to get the doors done and add some support and roosts to the structure, then I will be able to cover it with wire and a roof.

Since the birds are young, I'll build a nest box last.

So far...

We have two ND sisters, they just turned 1 year old. We plan to mate them later this year. The person we bought them from (not for anywhere near $1K each), had two give birth recently, and we were able to see one give birth-good experience for the teen. One of the goats had twins (M/F), and they are super cute, stand to nurse, and are doing pretty well. The one we saw give birth only had a single male kid. That kid is huge. Even right after birth, he was so big and tall he had to sit to nurse. So, now teen is excited for baby goats next year.
