What did you do in the garden today?

Picked a couple big leaf lettuces. Gave one to my neighbor and ate the other one myself. I wrapped spoonfuls of mixed up salmon/ranch dressing/sweet relish in the leaves.

I believe I will cut all my pea vines down, snag any remaining peas, then plant cucumber seeds in their place. Might as well get double use of the pea trellis. And maybe the pea roots will provide some nitrogen for the cukes.

Taking some time between storms to let the chickens graze in the chicken yard. We got a really bad storm around 3 am. My dogs don’t usually react to the storms but this one made them nervous. In addition to the high winds, thunder and lightning the trees blowing in the wind kept setting off the motion sensor lights. We’ve accumulated at least another inch of rain today. Downpours every now and then. I did manage to pick some peas this morning, then did a little weeding between the kale and carrots. Also weeded around the lettuce. I suspect the fertilizer is washing down the slope of the garden a bit. The lima bean plants and sweet 100 tomato plant are a lot bigger than the plants above them. I ordered some organic fertilizer spikes to see if that keeps the nutrients closer to the plants. I did make some good progress in the corn patch. Just a little more scraping grass away and I can plant the summer squash. The cucumbers I planted several days ago are already coming up. I’m hoping for some dry time to mulch the tomato beds in the big garden and the nightshade garden. Still a lot to keep me busy.

@gtaus, I'm really hoping that the shop takes care of you. I'm hoping it's an easy "oops" fix too.

Where I used to work, we occasionally made "oops" mistakes, just like everyone else. One time, someone forgot to box up and ship an overnight package to the other side of the state for a funeral. It was a beautiful picture of the deceased, a young girl. The owner and manager called the recipient, told them what had happened (early am delivery wasn't going to arrive, and the funeral was at 1 pm) and said, "Don't worry, we are driving it there personally. We'll be there by 9 am."

I hope it's an easy fix. I talked to the manager today and she is going to come to my house and pick up the mower, bring it back to the shop for a total checkout, and return it. I can't ask for anything more. I sensed some frustration in her voice over the phone, but I think she is frustrated with how the shop let that mower get out without a complete check in the first place. I don't feel she was upset with me.

Strong storms rolled through after midnight, lots of rain, with gusty winds. A couple of my borage plants snapped. Bummer.

Went over my tomatoes and peppers looking for Army worms, found a total of six. Two days ago I found 4 dozen, same amount the day before.

The flock have been enjoying the fruits of my labors. 🐛🐛🐛

Glad you got it mostly resolved. She was probably frustrated with the tech that sent it out with faulty brakes. I bet the tech will get a good talking to from the manager. LOL

Same here! I thought we had early morning fog. Nope. It's all smoke.

I weeded one raised bed, then planted beans. This is the bed that had garlic last year, and alliums and beans (and peas) don't get along. So this is an experiment to see if beans will grow and bear in a former allium bed.
For anyone looking to track smoke so they can breathe fire.airnow.gov
