What did you do in the garden today?

It is exactly the other way around for me, I can stand the cold ( I grew up in Canada 😉) but can’t tolerate heat very well 😬 and my poor chickens also suffer when its 28 C at 10 pm
Same here. I'll take 20 degrees & snow over 90 any day.

Holy cannoli, I went out to set up the japanese beetle traps & I was swarmed by hundreds. DH was disgusted, it looked like the ground around was moving. Guess I should have put them out last week. :gig

Mature Pepper plants need less N and more P&K cut back Nitrogen back to zero.. grow the plant to desired height and then ditch N and only feed for flower and fruit.. I regularly start to get peppers end of May and June July I get a ton.. I only have a few plants this year no garden to speak of.. health issues..
I've already picked 2 large green peppers. Letting the others turn red. I started peppers really late this year but we also have had a lot of heat & rain.

90 degrees would feel balmy. I'm getting fed up with the triple digit weather combined with high humidity this early in the summer. I can only imagine what August is going to be like... Thank God for the irrigation system. It has made life far more bearable in the garden.

I could never live down south. We get a lot of humidity here, but we don't generally get into the triple digits. & I am so jealous of your irrigation! When my beds are finally set up for this old, broken lady I will add irrigation. We still haven't decided what to do for beds.

@gtaus - came across this doghouse made from pallets on Craigslist and thought of you. I'm actually thinking about making a varient of this idea for my goats. 😊

I let my fenced in chicken out to have some fun, but when I went to check on them, they ate my newly planted long daikon raddish tops and up rooted some. I have them growing in two shallow 19 inch pots, I hope the bald ones in the ground grow new leaves.

I won't let them out again, big mistake............

Good afternoon gardeners. Finally got a break in the rain. We got around 3 inches or more. The sump pump is getting a workout. DD came over this morning to help pick peas. We got nearly 2 full colanders. I shelled my colander and got it in the freezer. About 1/2 pound. She ate a lot this while she was picking. But she took her peas home with her. Lol! I got string around the bush string beans earlier this morning. Trying to take it easy on my knee. Nothing really to do in the garden tomorrow. I could skip picking peas and wait until Wednesday so I have more for the freezer. Tomorrow I’m smoking ribs. That’s about as festive as it gets for now. The lettuce and kale are doing well enough to pick when I need a salad. My Sweet 100 and DD’s chocolate cherry tomatoes all have blooms on them. Looking forward to them. The corn is well over a foot tall and growing fast.

I fenced an area around the chicken coop. It’s approximately 2500 square feet. They get to run around and forage twice a day. I stay with them because of the abundance of predators. Keeps them out of my garden areas as well.
