What did you do in the garden today?

We won't be going home until Saturday. While it has been wonderful to escape the extreme heat & humidity for a while, I am very anxious for my animals and garden. DS tends to do the bare minimum and is not attentive. I should have a bunch of ripe tomatoes if the critters didn't get them. Probably some beans, squash, and corn too... Oh, and the pumpkin in the compost... Before I left the pumpkin vines in the garden were nearly completely over the trellis. I can imagine how wild everything has gotten. :fl

We pulled zucchini and cucumbers from the garden.

What is the sign they need magnesium? And how do you give it to them?
CalMag.. calcium and magnesium usually paired together in a single bottle helps with BER (Blossum End Rot) on many fruiting vegetables, you can get a bottle of Cal Mag anywhere.. Amazon, Feed Stores, Big Box Stores.. a concentrate you mix with water in a gallon jug or similar.. pour on base of plants..

I noticed this a couple of years ago when we similar torrential downpours. The leaves started looking similar to blight but not quite. I looked up causes and one was a lack of magnesium. Apparently magnesium helps the plants absorb nutrients in the soil. I used epsom salts on those plants and they recovered. I’ll mix some up with water tomorrow and give them all a dose. I didn’t want to do it after the sun was blazing hot this morning. I’ll try to remember to take a picture of the affected plants tomorrow and post it.

You can also put it on the leaves early in the morning.

Yes foliar feeding is fine too, but you must get enough of it in the Stomata while they are receptive for intake and a lot of times calmag and Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) will build up and block uptake by foliar feeding.. as with anything different varieties and leaf structures will vary as to the effectiveness of cal mag uptake. But yes, early morning is when the Stomata (think pores) are open..
