Worked around the coop today, no gardening.
Yesterday picked more zucchini, tomatoes, peas and greenbeans.

I noticed my butterbeans are almost ready.

Yep, we always called them butterbeans and so good cooked with a bit of bacon! Must be a southern thing. I don't think I ever heard them called Limas when I was growing up.

Also got a few sunflowers blooming.

These will end up chicken snacks.

My grandmother always cooked them in homemade chicken broth.

Saturday, Part 2

My old vegetable garden was neglected and grew small trees. Last Spring (2022) I had someone cut the trees down to the ground, then I covered the area with used carpet to smother new tree growth.

But that didn't stop weeds from TRYING.

I got up to my water barrel, turned the corner of the garden and attacked the second side. I thought the matted growth area was ivy.

Then I ran the lawnmower around the edge of the entire carpeted garden area. It's not perfect but looks SO much better!

Grapevines went on the burn pile, as I do not want to take a chance of them resurrecting in the compost pile. I'm not sure if the chicks would like them, or if it might be something I shouldn't give them.

Went inside to cool down, and it started raining.

Total time for today: 2 hours approximately. Not bad.

Addendum: added a hose holder once the rain stopped.

Grape leaves are used to wrap fillings and eaten, kind of like cabbage rolls. I bet your chickens would like them.

I weeded some, and turned the compost pile today. My reward? The very first tomato, a cherry. Very tasty.

I also dug the rest of the volunteer potatoes that were in with the sweet potatoes. I'll cook them tomorrow.

What's the best way to cook new potatoes?

Boil them, cut them in half, mix with salt, pepper, butter and dill. Dilly potatoes!

Phew. I loathe that job because the mower is SO flipping heavy and there is NO way to hook that up to the tractor (or take it off) alone.

Lima beans and butter beans can both be green, tan, or white.
They are the same bean, just called different names.
We call them icky.

I garden in tires now but have a a ton of plants om them.
No bending for me.

Do you stack them? Cos if you have only 1 tire, even though I’m not the tallest person in the world I’d still have to bend to reach them
