What did you do in the garden today?

The plants are alive and definitely growing. I could very well have a small crop next year

I'd read not to expect grapes until year 3. Hoping we both get something next year!

I put some compost on my grapes today. I should have done it yesterday, as we got an inch of rain last night.

I picked 4 tomatoes that are starting to turn. I wanted to make sure I got them, not the ground hog.

I pulled the weeds from around the onions, and put some compost by the grapevines and pepper plants. Then I dug up another ant nest and got bit a few times. At least it wasn't a yellow jacket nest!

Our yard backs up to a community "park" of sorts. Just a little patch of lawn and a wooded area. Today was my neighbor's daughter's graduation open house. Sweet girl. I've known her all her life. I kept the dogs inside, so they wouldn't bark.

They set up a volley ball net in the little park. I watched as the ball went over our 6' fence, over and over and over - landing in my garden, each time. I finally asked the kids to watch out for the plants. They stopped playing. I felt bad - but my garden has been months of work - and almost no harvest, yet.

I'll assess the damage, tomorrow.

I had 2 dogs, don't know where they belong, destroy my melon bed this year. It was growing great. They dug up my cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins and all but one sunflower. This bed is only roped off. They jumped the property fence, crossed 2 acres and jumped the ropes to do this.
They ran off when they saw me coming up the path. Wasn't their fault, was their owner's fault!
Nothing I could do but replant.

I harvested 7 tomatoes! Cut down the dill to dry for pickling cucumbers, watered the watermelon and flower beds. Observed the cucumbers.
I haven’t had home grown tomatoes since moving south from Michigan. Loving it!
oh, and looked in disappointment at my heat stroked non thriving zucchini. Live and learn what works for local climate and planting times!
