What did you do in the garden today?

Our T-posts go down 3-4 feet, so the wiggle-jiggle swear method doesn't work.

Holey Moley! I just drive mine in until the steel plate at the bottom is buried a few inches. I kind of plan on things being temporary, so I make them easy to pull out.

The big raised bed has a new "fence" around it now. It's still a work in progress, but at least it's deer and chicken proof. I even strung some ropes across the top to hopefully make the deer think real hard before they try to jump the fence into my garden. Pictures to follow...

And I just had a supper of veggies from my garden. Fresh green beans and zucchini squash, seasoned with basil, cooked in chicken broth. Not too bad! I'll have a chicken thigh later on.

And I returned three 8 foot T-posts to the local hardware store this afternoon. Got back a little over $40, enough for 2 bags of chicken feed!

love my worktunes. I DID notice that the ones that are bluetooth enabled are not as loud as the radio only ones, AND the radio ones the past two years are hit or miss with working out of the box. Took me two pairs this year to get pair #3 that actually worked clear and loud enough to drown out the tractor.

I'm sorry to hear that the quality control of these headphones has gone downhill. I used the heck out of my first pair of Worktunes and they lasted about 5 years. I think they just got full of sweat and eventually something failed. I've had my second pair for about 2 years now and no problems.

I never had the radio headphones, so I don't know how loud they get compared to the Bluetooth headphones. I know that you have to crank up the Bluetooth device all the way up since there is no volume control on the headphones.

FWIW, I started wearing headphones and listening to my nursing lectures when I was outside working in the garden. Getting a little review studying done while working in the garden. It worked good for me and my gardening time doubled as study time!

I encourage everyone to wear hearing protection as much as possible. My dad needed hearing aids at my age, but I started wearing hearing protection as a young man and my hearing is still good now in my 60's.

I made a fresh bean salad today using our fresh beans and cherry tomatoes from the garden, and a bunch of other stuff some of which I had to buy. But it was good eating some fresh produce out of the garden.

I also made a mixed berry custard desert and served it up with some vanilla ice cream. Very nice combination.

I got both recipes from the Senior Citizen's cooking class I attend once a month. It's nice when I find a recipe that works for us at home. Most of us old timers at the cooking class also are gardeners, so our instructors try to find recipes that take advantage of the food we might have coming into harvest when the class meets. This past month was focused on beans and tomatoes. That is what I have lots of in my gardens.

Our 8-foot T-posts at Menards cost me $8.00 each. Are you in a high price neck of the woods? Our low-priced chicken feed is now $15.00 per bag, but I remember a few years ago it was about $10.00 per bag. Of course, you can pay a lot more for the organic feeds.

DH is 53 and wears aids and hearing protection. I wear it on the mower and the tractor, but that's all- oh and post pounding, ALWAYS for post pounding. Once time I forgot and OMG, I blew some nerve with the tone of the driver and it pounded for DAYS. My eardrum was going insane. It felt like I had a tadpole trapped behind the membrane. Gross and disorientating.

Farm store Tposts are super heavy duty and do cost an arm and a leg. 9.50$ each and weigh 10 pounds each.
My feed is up to 22$ a bag not fancy.

Yep, that's why I have developed the good habit of always wearing my hearing protection headphones when I work outside. If I need to do something that requires hearing protection, well, I already have the headphones on. No need to run back to the house or garage for hearing protection.

Mine are hanging around on various pieces of large equipment, where they need worn. Pair hanging on the mower, the tractor, one on the sawmill. DH just has two pair, one on the shop wall and one on the barn wall. If mine aren't handy....... Just sometimes I have a moron moment.

Yeah, that happens. My grandmother would be looking all over the house for her eyeglasses until one of us grandkids would ask her if she was looking for the glasses hanging around her neck on her eyeglass chain! Happened all the time to her. Both funny and sad as she later got Alzheimer's disease in her last years of life.

Well, that's why I got myself into the habit of always putting on my hearing protection headphones and turning on a radio program to listen to while working outside. I always have my headphones on my ears. I have to go out of my way to take off my headphones.
