What did you do in the garden today?

I use the vac sealer primarily for meat that goes in the freezer. No freezer burn and it stores longer this way. But I also use the sous vide cooking method for a lot of items in the summer so it’s dual purpose. Plus, I can store prepared meals in them and rewarm right in the bag. Less mess and water use. I just pour boiling water over the bags and let them sit in a bowl covered.
My son is a big sousvide cooker. He loves it. He loves to cook and bake and cook in general.

TVP, tofu, tempeh, seitan. Lots of plant based protein out there that gets flavored like meat. That kills me, pretend meat that is flavored like meat.
Eat what you will, everyone. I have sharp pointy teeth for ripping and tearing. Plus I can't handle the fillers in the fake meat, nor the salt levels.

I love it in summer when it’s too hot to check stuff in the solar cookers. I like to make steak in it, then sear it in the cast iron skillet and chill, then slice for a steak salad. Perfectly cooked and tender every time.

Poplar Report just reported that they've started using fake artificial meat at Food pantries and like places where people go for help to get food for the poor. That stuff is already shown to be made from cancer cells. Heaven knows what its going to be doing to people.

Everything is crazy right now.

I seriously doubt that. I know some people at our local food shelf and the food they get there is healthier for you than the stuff most of us buy at the supermarket. They are in the business to help people, not hurt people. If there was any concern about a food product, it would not be offered to the people who get food from them.

What's crazy right now is how many social media outlets can spread rumors and false information at the speed of light. If a story sounds too evil to be true, it's probably not true. But if you are concerned about an issue, I find it best to find trusted sources on that topic and see what they report. I, personally, have never heard of Popular Report.

Good morning all. I’ve been watching videos of folks filling up their raised beds with all sorts of stuff. I think I’m going to try three methods initially. I really want to try the SIP bed, a hugel bed and then use the water trays that came with them for the last one and see what works best or which I like the most. I’m excited to get that going, now if the weather would just cool off I could get started. This morning was really nice though, down into the 80s so watering was a pleasant activity. I opened the shade garden so the chickens can get some weeding done, but that’s the extent of my gardening today. Except I have a small Vitex I need to transplant to a bigger pot.

I mowed between the rows of blueberries and blackberries getting the area ready for some fall greens. We would really like to freeze and maybe try canning some mustard, turnip, and collard greens this fall.
I like frozen greens but have limited freezer space. I have tried pressure canning them and do not like them so much. Good luck and I would like to hear how canning greens turns out for you. It is likely just my own preference for the texture of the frozen over the canned, you may like them better. I am lucky, in that most years, I can pick collard greens fresh most all winter until they go to seed. To all, I am posting more now because the heat drives me indoors and out of the garden in mid summer these days. I have to limit myself to very short work session early or late in the day.

I love Vitex bushes! I should have one or two.
