What did you do in the garden today?

I love Vitex bushes! I should have one or two.
I’ve only had them a couple of years and like them enough that I bought a third plant :) Plus they are taking the heat here like it’s nothing, which is amazing really. I can’t wait for them to grow up and provide more shade in the yard.

I seriously doubt that. I know some people at our local food shelf and the food they get there is healthier for you than the stuff most of us buy at the supermarket. They are in the business to help people, not hurt people. If there was any concern about a food product, it would not be offered to the people who get food from them.

What's crazy right now is how many social media outlets can spread rumors and false information at the speed of light. If a story sounds too evil to be true, it's probably not true. But if you are concerned about an issue, I find it best to find trusted sources on that topic and see what they report. I, personally, have never heard of Popular Report.
Same. I donate between 10-15 dozen eggs every week to our local food pantry. They are not giving out fake meat to people.

However, I believe the person who posted above about fake meat coming from cancer cells got the information from Bloomberg -

Lab-Grown “Meat” is Made of “Immortalized” Cancer Cells

The big honking asterisk is that normal meat cells don’t just keep dividing forever. To get the cell cultures to grow at rates big enough to power a business, several companies, including the Big Three, are quietly using what are called immortalized cells, something most people have never eaten intentionally. Immortalized cells are a staple of medical research, but they are, technically speaking, precancerous and can be, in some cases, fully cancerous.

Eat Just Inc. declined to comment for this story. Believer Meats Chief Scientific Officer Yaakov Nahmias says that his company uses immortalized cells in its cultured chicken and that his team has somehow, by means he says even they don’t understand, created immortalized cells that don’t share any genetic signatures with cancer cells.

:caf I have lots of cherry tomatoes to eat up. Anybody know how to make homemade tomato soup and if cherry tomatoes would be good for that? Grandma used to make tomato soup at home with fresh tomatos and milk, etc.. but I was pretty young at the time and was not paying attention to her cooking. I just ate it up after it was ready.

They are very heat tolerate! They are unfortunately not real fast growers in my experiences. They can take many years to reach large shrub size. You have to start somewhere and the large specimens are very expensive. Enjoy your lovely bushes! The honey bees love them too!

While not tomato soup, I will mention my favorite use for cherry tomatoes is roasted with olive oil, garlic and herbs in the oven at 400 degrees F then used as a easy pasta topping or on crostini or good pizza topping /sauce substitute. The skins do not bother me on smaller grape or cherry tomatoes.

I like frozen greens but have limited freezer space. I have tried pressure canning them and do not like them so much. Good luck and I would like to hear how canning greens turns out for you. It is likely just my own preference for the texture of the frozen over the canned, you may like them better. I am lucky, in that most years, I can pick collard greens fresh most all winter until they go to seed. To all, I am posting more now because the heat drives me indoors and out of the garden in mid summer these days. I have to limit myself to very short work session early or late in the day.
Canned Green Beans or Frozen Green Beans....I think it's basically up to individual preference. I know some people who only freeze their green beans, and I also know people who absolutely do not like frozen green beans. I would prefer frozen, but my mother-in-law always canned hers and that's how DH likes them. (Actually, she grew up with her mother always freezing them, but when she got married her husband wanted them canned...so that preference goes back another generation yet!) I do freeze some to use when I can vegetable soup at the end of the season after I have the carrots and potatoes....
