What did you do in the garden today?

Went outside and picked a yellow squash and immediately made this. :lau 😍😍😍

I didn’t get to eat very much though cause I had to leave so I told my dad to eat the rest lol

Went to my mom's house and spent 5+ hours trying to clean out her she-shed. Got about 70% done. Apparently my mom had a box fetish. I have never broke down so many empty boxes in my life... 😳 I also uncovered yet MORE gardening fertilizer, an entire 55 gallon trash can full of peat moss, some garden solar lights, soaker hose, and a gazillion more pots of various sizes. And then there was the bird seed. My mom had DOZENS of bird feeders all over her property. Well, she had probably 8-9 of these giant tubs with various types of bird seed in it. I threw several away because they were moldy or infested with bugs. Then there were several large unopened boxes from Wild Birds Unlimited which were full of bird seed. Never opened. Some of them had to be thrown away because mice had gotten into them. Then there were several boxes of suet. She had 8 giant tubs of Christmas decorations! That's not counting 2 bags which I suspect are trees and another that's probably a wreath.

Just insane. And I'm still not done going through things in the shed but the dumpster was full.
Bless your heart. Is your mom still living?

Hey all, hope it’s a lovely day in your gardens. There are storms in the valley so it’s muggy, but none at my house. I gave Mother Nature a piece of my mind this morning about it though. Been getting stuff prepped for the Fall growing season and was thinking about an easier way to empty nutrients from the hydroponic buckets. I bought a bunch of spigots that I can use to drain most of the solution when it need a a change. Much easier than dumping each bucket!

I got the buckets all scrubbed out and the net cups are soaking now. We need to run the power out to the shade garden and hubs is going to build a little cover for the air pump to keep it dry. I’m ready to get going, now just waiting for cooler weather.

Finally got some of the garlic braided. Saved a few of the best ones to replant & actually lost like 3 as they were mushy. Not sure if it was my drying process, the humidity or the garlic. I pulled it a little early because of all the rain.

My braids don't look nearly that pretty....

I just watered my garden today. Nothing was ready to pick, but I noticed that I have two varieties of summer squash coming on that are NOT zucchinis! Yellow crookneck and what I think it pattypan squash. Maybe one of these...

I'm thinking about drying some of my herbs. Need to figure out how. Oh, I did pick some fresh parsley this morning and added it to my morning omelet.

I have a dehydrator. I use it to dry all the herbs I pick from my herb gardens. I usually do it after the majority of the canning is done. But before apples and grape jam making time. It keeps up that farm fresh aroma in the house. We got about 1/2 inch of rain today. We may get a little more later this evening. The corn is growing really well. There werea few stalks that grew another foot over night. My new grapevines are looking very good. I’m so hoping these actually root and continue to grow. The Sweet 100’s tomatoes in the nightshade garden are ripening. The tomatoes in the big garden are really slow to ripen. I pruned the dying leaves off of them this morning. I am planning on pulling up the bush green beans on Friday and getting that bed ready for some cool weather salad greens. I’m so sorry for the loss of your hens @igorsMistress. The weather patterns are seriously off kilter with temperature extremes and droughts, then deluges. It makes growing food much more challenging. Every year I say I will be planting indoors over the winter, perhaps I’ll get there this year.

So DH & I were watching some show with Impala on it & he says, 'hey that Impalas butt reminded me, have you seen all the caterpillars on your flowers by the strawberries?' A bit confused about the Impalas butt part, but I got all excited that the swallow tails or the monarchs had finally found my butterfly weed! So I go out today with glasses on & phone in hand & it all made sense...
