What did you do in the garden today?

Rant: Hey, :ducI have enough to share, but could you eat 1 or 2 or 3, and eat the whole thing?!? This bite out 7 or 8 or 10 is PISSING ME OFF!

:lau Dear Wife got really upset because she found an eggplant that had a few bites out of it on both ends. Don't know if it was a squirrel or a rabbit. But it was only a couple small bites. She was going to throw it away, but I suggested she just cut off the end pieces and see if the rest of the eqgplant was good for us to eat. It was. So we had eggplant last night and the chickens got the eggplant ends (with bite marks) in their chicken bucket this morning. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow...

I started a lot of eggplants this year in the house. We normally have maybe 4 eggplants out on the deck each under a chicken wire cage to keep the squirrels out, but this year we had 8 eggplants on the deck and just as many out in the raised garden beds. We have had a really good year for eggplants, so a few small bites every now and then is something I can live with.

I meant these, I also have them in my garden , but… no guarantee ! They look like mine, but I am not there to see them 🙈
They sure look like the cornflowers we have alongside cornfields in Illinois. Have you tried the “picture this” app? Really cool plant ID app. Take a pic and get ID of subject plant you shoot along with pretty good info.

Same. I've been slowly stocking up over the last couple of years. It "looks" like hoarding - but, I bought these things when the shelves were full, and there were no shortages. As much as prices have risen, I'm really glad I did
We are using canned veggies that cost me about $0.50 less per can than what I can replace them with now. Same brand. Ridiculous, but there you go.

Thank you! Some one called this morning and our dogs were at their house ( 3/10 of a mile away). The dogs weren’t letting them leave the house. 😞 They even tried feeding them but the dogs were so scared that they barked ( and they have very ferocious sounding barks).
But all was good. The couple was very understanding and we got the dogs and brought them home. They were exhausted, very hungry and thirsty.
I’m so glad you found them!!

Yesterday’s harvest:

Getting ready to cull 5 of my cockerels and start canning all of these goodies.

Squash. It’s big! But, will it turn a color? That is the question.

Butternut, produced well, several still waiting to be picked.

Supposed to be a Barbados (or Caribbean?) seasoning pepper, generally mild. But this pepper looks different than the mild pepper pics, and now similar to Scotch Bonnet peppers. Haven’t tried it yet.

Wow, those butternut squash are great looking! What’s the big one in first pic?

I overdid it a bit yesterday. I was tired and sore. Feel ok now. 63 now and headed to 90 today. I will have to quit outdoor work around noon today due to the heat. FYI magic or mystery lilies will survive zone 3. I gifted some to a friend about 3 years ago. She sent me a pic on the phone of them in bloom. Mine are a few days away from blooming.

Good morning gardeners. Hurricane Hilary is supposed to help our monsoon, but I’m unimpressed. We’ve had muggier days without the hurricane influences. I even tempted the rain by washing my car and watering the stuff outside. So far nothing has worked, all we got was dust and enough rain to make a mess on the car again :rant
