What did you do in the garden today?

I was watching a guy make fertilizer from chopped up weeds in water. He uses the water. Something to consider as I have a bunch of chopped weeds. I have a fish emulsion fertilizer at the cabin. Should be ready to use when I return.

I watched that video too. as I have a lot of weeds that are not edible by animals I plan to put them in a big barrel with water. I don't have time to chop them so I'll put them as they are.
From what I understand, when you soak the weeds, or any other plants, it pulls nitrogen and other nutrients out. Kind of makes sense that it would be good for fertilizing the garden, in my opinion.

It's better to just compost the weeds, the water makes them smell.
My weeds have seeds and I do not want them in my compost. Yes the heat should kill the seeds but does not kill all of them. I have been running them through the chipper to reduce volume. A way to return nutrients without seeds, At my age many trips with the wheelbarrow is a no. I choose chipping as I can stay close to chipper while weeding. I no longer have chickens to eat the weeds. Too much work in the winter - age related.

I had an echo and heart doctor visit yesterday. All good news. I have a Dexacom to monitor blood sugar. Having trouble with patches not sticking as I sweat a lot during activity. Echo guy recommended tincture of Benzone. Tried 3 places with no luck finding it. Ordered online. Need a new canning funnel. No luck finding one so I ordered online.

I picked quite a few cherry tomatoes today and to my surprise I had gone out to give my girls their snacks and found an egg. It's rather small even though I have RIR girls but it's a start.
First egg? If so they start out small, but they’ll get bigger with time.

Good news that you got all good news!!

I think I'm about a two days from cutting the tomatoes off at the ground and sending them into ripening mode. And then cleaning out the tomato plants in about two weeks. Same with the cukes.
The fruit is almost all gone and what is out there is very small.
The numerous heat waves did not allow for fruit set, so there just isn't any. The only exception is the midnight cherry, which looks pretty good.

I think so but this is my first year with chickens
Congratulations! The eggs will get bigger, but don’t be surprised if they’re inconsistent at first, it takes a little time for their bodies to adjust. Also, be sure you’re offering calcium, even if you feed a layer ration.

Thank you. I wasn't sure about the eggs but I am so happy that I have the BYC family, friends and community to help me with the process.
