Thanks for that link. I was really interested in the control bucket concept with the float valve. I will have to check out those grommets and piping. I was thinking about hooking up a tote bin (DIY Earthbox) system like that with the bins daisy chained on long support shelf. Maybe even having a two or three level shelf for the totes.

Would be nice to fill one control bucket on the third level and have the water automatically adjusted to the correct level on the lower two levels. Don't know if that is possible, but still kicking it around in my mind.

Kind of like this setup but with 27 gallon totes instead of 5 gallon buckets....

Just thinking it would great if that setup could be connected to a single control 27-gallon tote on the top tier and the water flows down to the lower tiers but automatically shuts off before overflowing.

If anyone has a suggestion to accomplish that type of setup, please let me know. Thanks.

I'm very interested in finding out if this works and I will definitely send a picture to my mom and find out if her and my dad can help figure out a way to make it work.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has sent me seeds. I am sharing the seeds. Keeping people in the gardening circle is absolutely the best thing that I can do for all.

Makes me think of cocoDTW but since tomatoes maybe the other version where it goes back into a tank. I feel like hoocho did a two shelf version for tomatoes either using the painting style buckets and/or bato buckets.

Well. Today was a busy and emotional day. Got the freebie drums for my IBC wicking container. Some are a bit smaller and nicer looking and will be used for the quail drinkers you'll probably see in another thread.

Got Anna vaccinated/chipped and ready for rehoming and after that was the painful goodbye of my shih tzu boy Albis. I cried a bit but whatever, I know he's in a way better place as he now doesn't have to deal with so much competition and the teenager was wrapped with him. Meanwhile comfort food was had.

So to use the nipple drinkers in pvc I figured I need a tap drill bit but all I could find was a 3/8 which worked really well in tandem with my 9mm drill bit. I've bought all the bits needed to automate the watering for the quail and one little bonus of the piping I'll use is that it's white on the outside, black on the inside which is good for heat I think.

Today was going to be the hottest day for a while so I took the dress off the tomato kratky outside and put a stake in her. I'm trying to decide if I should kill off the sibling that's growing strong alongside it but I'm pretty damn sure these were cherry varieties so I might just leave it and see what happens.

I don't know about you Americans but I gotta ask. Do you think neighbors become more nosy the further rural you go/bigger blocksize? Far out I miss Spearwood. I've been bombing the green house lately with that rosemary oil based pesticide freebie I got from the grow shop and while the webbing remains on the strawberry plants I actually see them kinda flourishing. I gotta start picking them to prolong the flowering or it's back to bunnings to buy more.

I think once the quail projects are over I'm going to devote time to to running my old 90mm rail with the cherry varieties after seeing that earlier video and just have them cascade over the side. I think it could be done with the right spacing. And it might be a way I can try out the Sungolds/brads atomic grape (still gotta buy that!)

I'm thinking a online shop is coming up at a seed store just to stock up on unique/small tomatoes. I'm praying that some of these babies survive the pests and weather to produce something. I'll be trying tomato toasties, tomato omelettes, maybe other things but I've gotta space it out because it gets my gout going big time.

One of the big reasons I'm doing so many tomatoes is that it's for my father as he is a big lover of them. As a kid I wasn't fond of them but lately despite even gout, I've been indulging in them with balsamic vinegar/italian herbs and other things.

With a weak of mild avg weather starting tomorrow I'm thinking I might try to fix the bare spaces in the garden by seeding it out. Just not sure what to use. I'll probably go rainbow chard, big leafy type things and stuff that can get up and going. Maybe more of the dwarf purple beans, they sound like adorable. Part of me wants to get the borlotti ones. Anywho, I gotta stop talking so much.

Well, in my case, it might be a different kind of nosy. I live on a lake, about 10 miles from town, on what used to be resort property 50 years ago. There are only 3 of us that are year-round residents, and the others are summertime only vacationers. Because we live so far from town, the 3 of us year-round residents kind of look out for everybody's property because most of the places are locked up and empty between the end of September and the middle of May. If we see a strange car or truck come on to our property, we check it out to make sure it is not someone trying to break in and steal stuff from the summer homes.

I have lived out here for 35 years now, and have the contact telephone numbers of almost all the neighbors. I have called them from time to time if I see anyone going down to their summer cabins in the off season. It has always been some relative who stopped by, or something like that, but the neighbors are always thankful for the courtesy call.

When I lived in town in apartments, I never cared or checked who came and went from the buildings. But I never knew my neighbors in town, either, so there's that difference as well.

Not for me. My neighbor is the biggest thief out, she gets her tenants to snatch stuff. Basically a big time rat. I try to avoid going out enjoying my garden when she's out just so I can avoid.

What is it good for? I had gobs of it in the garden. I leave it for the pollinators. It self seeds easily. I never had to plant it after the first year.

I watched a video of a lady here I. Phoenix talking about it. She uses the flowers in salads and she likes fancy ice cubes. Her words not mine lol.

Thanks for the reply, I am looking forward to them. I have an okra growing that I am found of. It was the only seed that sprouted from an old bag. I usually make seeds from the previous grow outs, but I must have thrown it out.

This one plant just started to produce okra, so I have left a big one on my plant for seeds. They are tender at 4 to 5 inches but get bigger than that. The okra at my local nursery is short and stubby, it's not same variety that I like.

If you want to pickle, you can pick small. Otherwise they get big without getting woody (until really big) so if you miss a day, you don't lose a bunch of okra

Nope. My neighbors leave me alone and vice versa. The only one that tried to be nosy was actually from a big city. My husband was target practicing. We live on 5 acres and he back stops, etc. He was facing easterly and shooting down a ravine.

The city guy showed up with his daughter on our doorstep. His daughter said she "saw" the bullets whizzing through the trees. They lived to the west of us several acres away through 2 acres of trees. When we pointed out we weren't even shooting in that direction, he called the police - who probably informed him we were doing it safely because we haven't had any more problems from him.

When I lived in an HOA that was a new level of nosy. Now, 5 acres of woods and no nosy neighbors at all
