What did you do in the garden today?

My right knee has been in pretty bad shape for the last few years. After several cortisone injections, a couple times a year, I had a series of three hyaluronic acid gel injections into my knee last December. That did a great job at relieving the pain, and the knee still feels pretty good a year later. No cortisone injections this year, either.

I know a knee replacement is in the future for me, but I'm doing all I can to delay the operation. I'll put it off for as long as I can function well enough to get things done without intolerable pain.
I think it goes easier the younger you are. My nephew had a knee done in August and he has had a much better experience. I put mine off a long time.

what do you need to make beer (ingredients and equipment)?
depends on what type of beer your after and methods. (i make mead and cider so a bit different then beer but have helped my dad make his beer)
we use a primary fermenter, a glass carboy (for secondary fermentation) air locks, hose/siphon to rack over to other fermenters/bottling, and brewing sanitizer.

what we used for his beer was a kit of pre-made wort (think its called wort) that we added yeast to and let it go to work.

just getting started on grain brewing so i really know nothing about that yet.

edit: i forgot to mention the ingredients, its a mix of grains which you can buy from a brewing supply store (again depends on type of beer or style your after) hops (which is what i would like to try and grow) yeast and sugar for bottling.

Wow! that is a huge topic for here! You can start simple and with a small budget for 5 gallon batches or you can sink a lot of money into a larger and more professional set up. Basically , you need a primary fermenter vessel, a secondary fermenter with fermentation air locks and some simple handling and testing equipment. hoses, clamps, floating hydrometer, etc.. To get more information to get started well, I suggest looking for a local homebrewers club and supply company and going to one of my favorite suppliers More Beer online and reading their information and looking at brewing equipment, supplies and recipes/kits, books, etc. A more beer kit well executed by a homebrewer will be a good beer that you will enjoy and be proud of. As you learn, advanced or the traditional methods of all grain brewing will likely attract you! The only thing Jimmy Carter ever did I was happy with as our president was open up the law to legalize homebrewing and jump start my brewing experience in 1973. I still sometimes make a More Beer kit beer for a quick and simple brew day! The art and science of Zymurgy will give you a lifetime of learning experiences and take you down many trails if you desire more information/learning, it is a huge and ever expanding field of research and endeavors by curious people the world over. Zymurgy magazine may interest you to look at sometime. A simple American or British ale is a good first beer to try and make your own. Best wishes!

Update on my long bean, Kajari melon and Lima bean. I decided that I will cut the bottom out of my 1-gallon coffee can when I get a chance. The holes on the bottom gets clogged when the organic material breaks down and water don't drain out.

I planted 18 long bean seeds around my grow bag and they all sprouted and I will get to eat some long beans in about a week. I usually get tired of them after a while.

I hope you feel better Jerry, and that it’s NOT a slow process.

For what it’s worth, my father in law had hip surgery and he gets around much better. He doesn’t even use a cane and he’s 87.
I was walking with a cane at 65 and could not get in and out of my truck without excruciating pain due to RA in my hips and other places. I know it is not for everyone but I must tell my results from heavy cannabis therapy. Within two or three months of a forced retirement due to pain and disability and starting therapy at age 65, I was so much improved I took part time jobs at Kroger and Walmart for several more years. The actual swelling and beginning "turning" of my disfigured middle finger went down and the pain is bearable without other drugs or treatments. I tried the Methotrexate and other RX from my RA specialist with no results or improvement and finally quit even going there during the covid19 disasters, two years ago. I am now in my seventies and am still better, not cured, by any means, but walking without a cane still and working my mini farm and in my workshop ok. No drugs for the pain or treatment of my RA except Cannabis orally and topically primarily. I do have pain every day in my right hand that had the most damage before I began cannabis therapy, however I get some relief with the cannabis and the extreme swelling of my joints does not occur anymore, so far. There are side effects! Some happen but none for me that are as bad as with the RX's the specialist prescribed me! I do not mind a little buzz and relaxation rather than just pain and anxiety. I do have to watch out for heavy snacking attacks if I vape or smoke cannabis. Just saying these are my results from this therapy and better attention to nutrition and exercise. I told my doctor all of this and she was amazed and continued to monitor me until I quit going to her.

I picked a few bunches of turnips, napa cabbages, rutabagas and radishes again today, for my table and a few customers. My garlic recently planted has just started to poke up through the soil. I have to find customers for my lettuce crop as it is too much for just my close circle of regular customers. Not enough to supply a retailer but more than I have customers lined up. It likely needs to be harvested by Christmas and I have been selling and eating some since the week of Thanksgiving. I have eaten so much greens, turnips. lettuce and etc. lately I feel like I might turn into a green skinned man. I need to give away even more at church but my small church never takes all I offer to them! I am a blessed guy to have so much from so little effort!
