What did you do in the garden today?

Checked on my winter sown containers. I've got sprouts in the sweet william and hollyhock containers. I still want to plant some coreopsis. Hopefully this week.
Seedlings under lights coming along nicely.

We are having the shingles on the roof of our house replaced. The last windstorm we had broke off a couple tabs. It's time to replace it anyway so no need to repair. Crew will be here in the morning.
I hope this goes smoothly as rain suppose to come in at the end of the week. :fl

Whoa, I couldn't stop eating my refrigerated Reese's Peanut Butter bite size cups that I got from amazon. I had to make a sweet white kurieg coffee to stop.

I have to plan ahead before I nibble on a Reese's Peanut Butter cup tomorrow. The sweet white coffee did the job and neutralized the just one more syndrome, saying, "Last one," doesn't work for me.

Gave my youngest granddaughter some vegetable seeds to plant. She got really excited about getting her first garden planted. I told her as long as she takes good care of them she will get to pick her veggies from her own garden. I started cleaning my hen den (garden shed/she shed. Don't care for she shed so it's my hen den. I probably would have it done if it wasn't for the danged mosquitoes. I'm hoping I can get it done this week so then I can get my husbands studio cleaned. I told him to call it his man cave but he said no. After that I will be able to get the house organized and get all of the other ☹️ stuff done.

Pen is divided in two! There are already two doors, one per pen, bc we figured we would need to divide when they were pregnant or delivered. Husband built two sections. They are held together top and bottom by the “sleeves” (what would they be called?). This way the dividers are easy to handle and store, and easy to open and remove if needed quickly, without hardware the goats can eat…bc you know they would eat a random screw just to show you how much a vet can charge.

I’m curious if we will find the acrobats between pens. Right now the one in the back is standing on a short nightstand. But, wouldn’t take much for them to use the new hay racks and mosey across. Time will tell. They are pregnant though, so a bit wide right now.

I think it is low for goats. I hope someone else will know better. I still don't have goats but have been reading about them. I hope to get a pair of murcia-granada goats (spanish breed).

We're in a windy North Texas zone 8a. We've added pairs of pecan, apricot & honey crisp apple trees to our container garden of meyer lemons, satsuma mandarins, figs, blueberries & blackberries.

We planted seed potatoes in straw (Ruth Stout method), and then onion sets and broccoli in grow bags. We're also starting some leafy greens in hydroponic tubs using the Kratky method, and cherry tomatoes in more grow bags.

This year I we are anchoring down a hoop greenhouse with raised beds and a few cattle panel arches to protect against the wind. And planning to capture rainwater & lay irrigation so I spend less time with a hose.

Thinking of adding fodder trees like white mulberry, hybrid poplar, and willow from rareplantstore.com to replace some fruitless trees, and start some grapevines and a big stand of sunflowers.

How 'bout y'all?

Same here @Sueby. Temperatures in the 50’s, sunny but a bit breezy. I’ve had to slow down for a couple of days. What I thought was a strained muscle turned out to be sciatica. OMG! Very painful. When I figured out that ice packs not heat packs were the way to treat it I started getting better. I ordered a fresh bottle of Neem oil this morning along with some perlite and coir to mix with dirt for the grow bags. The strawberries should be here in about a week but I’ll have to store them for a couple of weeks before putting them in the grow bags. I started work on covering the picket fence on the side of the big garden with chicken wire. My dear little Chloe has been curious and has been attempting to squeeze between the pickets. That would be a disaster if she made it through or it could mean a trip to the emergency vet. I’m not sure if there’s a connection, however two of my Buff Orpington’s have started laying pretty regular since Princess passed. It would be nice if the Wyandotte hens would get busy.
