What did you do in the garden today?

Got my first seeds planted & on the heat mat. All the tiniest seeds in the world too, lol. Who knows what actually made it into the correct pods. :lau

mixed 50 pounds of pasture seed with 300 cubic feet of manure and got that into the manure spreader and did the hay field. Then I hand seeded the front yard with clover and fescue.

Then I was off to the pasture and put down 30 pounds of fodder mix. I have another 30 to go tomorrow, but I ran out of daylight.

The whole barn needed raked out.

Body is not happy with me jumping into hearty ranch work. Nothing in the garden today.

Got some horse manure from a friend, and spread it around the apple and peach trees, I am finally allowed to bend ( until the next operation) but it is hard going since I haven’t done it for the last 6 months 🙄 practiced it while trying to get rid of the nettles which exploded the past year, I wasn’t aware they could form such strong roots, I didn’t manage to get all out, since pulling too much puts too much of a strain on the wonky and the operated hip 🤷🏻‍♀️ can’t do much else in the garden since I won’t be there for 5 weeks in summer, my absence would kill anything I would have planted…a friend's husband I gave the chickens while I am incapacitated has been having major health issues, of course I worry for her and him, but also my chickens! 🙈

I hope you get well soon. Also I hope your friend gets better soon as well. Hopefully your chickens are all doing well.

Yes, my chickens are living a life of luxury, while being at my friend’s place ,my oldest hen (11,5 years) died, but she went fast, in the morning she didn’t want to come out of the coop, when my friend went to check up on her during midday, she had already died, so it was a peaceful death for her, I am a little bit worried about my favorite hen, she will turn 11 in August, she is still boss of my flock, I would really like to see her before she goes 🙏🏻 I am hoping I get a few daughters from her 🙏🏻 my friend will let a rooster to my flock when he is adult, and hopefully my hen will lay some fertile eggs ( she laid over 30 eggs last year) and hopefully there will be some hens among them ..

I should be starting seeds now. I don't have the umph to do it. Usually, it is stress reliever. This year, the thought of it is adding stress.

Dh and I will both be gone for a week at very bad timing for the starts. I think I can rig up watering but lighting is a problem. I don't have a good south window or enough grow lights. Other years, I moved them from east window to west window.

Then, I expect to be gone for several weeks at the drop of a hat when a kidney becomes available for ds-i-l. Or early in the summer, if one of my kids qualifies as a living donor (they have minor health issues to clear up in order to qualify) and if sil can wait that long or sooner if someone clears as a living donor sooner and he can't wait longer. Results are better if it can be done before he goes on dialysis.

Or. the latest is worse. Maybe. The transplant center found markers for pancreatic cancer. A family friend had that so I'm trying not to look anything up until the referral people get done looking into it. If we have to deal with it, we will but there is enough else going on to not deal with that unless we have to.

Maybe I will just plant cover crops this year. And marigolds.
Sending good vibes your way for all!
