What did you do in the garden today?

MICE I LOATHE MICE!
I went down to my studio to sew a simply adorable line lunch tote for the little girl I pick up at the bus stop.
While I was sewing, I had the radio on, but I thought I heard a squeak. Then I heard another. Then I heard I pair. They had NO problem with me being down there, so I snuck up on them.
They were in one of those rolling sewing machine cases. This one I use for an old coin collection, and I haven't opened it in probably 20 years ( 11 years here) But to my credit, I thought it was zipped shut. Nope, it has flaps and clips, easy access for a mouse through the handle portion.
Now, had I not been in a fit of blind rage, my sane mouse trapping skills would have had me put a large plastic bag over it while at the same time tipping it upside down and sealing the bag shut while I got it outside. This would have disorientated the beasts and trapped them.
But no, I shook the darn thing. One mouse stuck his head out, then another, and then they bolted.
DANG IT. OC I chose to tear my whole studio apart, in lieu of burning the house down. I checked all the fabric (wash what needed to be), get everything away from the walls, clean, toss out any trash, make a donate pile, all of which is now on the back porch outside. The clean fabric and anything in totes (wiped with wipes)was stacked on my giant cutting table, which has never shown any exposure to a mouse.
Even the shelving is now outside.
I have two traps down.
After I do the livestock I'll grab MANY more.
I'm also going to put down a little paper plate with 5 sunflower seeds on it. As long as any of those vanish, I know I stiff have a beast to deal with.

I ordered some clear totes from home depot and dh will pick them up on the way home. Just ARGH.
I swear, the whole day gone. But I did finish the tote first.

That lunch bag is so pretty. I know how you feel when it comes to mice. I immediately grab a glue trap big enough for rats and then I laugh at them.

I don't like the light green color and deep rib texture of the 16-inch okra variety from Bakers Creek. I prefer the green regular 4 to 6-inch smooth ridge type. The 16-inch type breaks down and doesn't hold its shape in gumbo. I wonder how your Burma okra holds up in gumbo?
I only fry okra. Gumbo is not a thing this far north. Okra is not commonly grown here. I was introduced to okra by someone from south.

One each of Apricot, Plum, and Nectarine tree have a few blossoms developing. They are young trees, never blossomed before. Probably no fruit this year though- but, if one or two develop I’ll be happy.

Looks like one tree peony (of 3) may be dead. I’ll have to contact the company to see about a replacement.
I can't seem to grow peonies to save my life. I've probably planted 3 or 4 and they always die. 🙄

Finally got back into garden cleaning today. I dragged a 100 foot roll of fence wire out of the garage (all 65 pounds of it) and managed to drag it up hill to the backyard gate. I got the fence installed where the old plastic fencing was. I still need to make a gate but I used some new chicken wire to cover the opening for now. Worked a little more on the garden beds. I’m so glad I bought a tiller because the overgrown grass is a nightmare to pull. I’m going to attack it with the weed whacker, then till it, then rake. What a mess. This is the first and the last time I don’t do a fall cleaning. Good news and bad news. The bird feeder pole I was planning on using for the hanging strawberry grow bags were apparently run over by the heavy equipment used by the loggers. It’s bent to where it’s unusable. The good news is I thought I needed to replace all the wood edging on my asparagus bed but fortunately only one side needs replacing now. Yay! Not sure how much I can accomplished tomorrow. Hoping to scavenge a couple of roofing panels from the old chicken run to use for increasing the depth of one of my raised beds. However, I really need to give my wee beasties a bath. They are so over due. Bad dog mama.
