What did you do in the garden today?

It was a nice day for working outside, overcast, slight breeze, about 80°, so I decided to do some trimming.

This is what happens in eastern NC when you don't mow an area...vines, privet, small trees.

Total time: approximately two hours. I was hot, had fatigue tremors, and was out of water. Time to stop. I think I will store my straw under the overhang, up on some sort of base and covered with a tarp.

A shetland pony and a pony cart!!!

I can envision DH expression at the sight of a Donkey, Mule or Pony hauling a cart, both of us wearing matching straw hats with flowers...I would absolutely love it.
Him...not so much
He would say Oh no, a bigger butt means bigger poo! Yup, sure does!

I bought myself a present yesterday - a Montmorency Cherry tree. I had a sapling several years ago, and it was really taking off. Then one heavy snow storm, the plow guy plowed right over it :/ I've been wanting a replacement ever since, and I did it this year! I will, however, be planting it far away from the driveway

Tomorrow I have the day off from both jobs, the weather should be nice, and so I will be hauling more brush to the burn mountain and battling more multi-flora!

Star of Bethlehem is gorgeous, but horribly invasive. It pops up in my front gardens every year, despite all my efforts to eradicate it. I have settled for control: I dig it up and put it in the trash before it sets seeds.

It can invade my "lawn" all it wants, I love it. It comes, it blooms, it disappears. Beautiful Star of Bethlehem was my MIL's favorite gospel song.

Lantana, citronella, and something new to me, Bidens (seriously). They are in the aster family.

They did have tomato plants, but not the varieties I wanted. I will check again next week.

Rainy day today. It started out with just an occasional scattered shower now it's a steady light drizzle. I started out the day with a fasting blood draw then a light breakfast after that. I went out during a break in the showers and went up the back slope and pulled all the tomato cages and stakes out of the ground from last year's nightshade garden. I'm planting peas, summer squash with nasturtiums and marigolds there this year. I measured for the bush peas and I have enough room there to plant 45 linear feet of rows for the peas. There's more room than I need for the squash so I thought adding the flowers would be nice. I checked on the blueberry bushes I planted last year. The largest one is looking really good. I could only distinguish 2 other of the plants. Perhaps when they get their leaves I'll be able to see the other two. The little pear tree is looking good as is the butterfly bush. Two of the three grapevines are looking very good. The third which was the smallest when I planted it is still small but hopefully will grow once Spring is really here. The little forsythia up there is doing well and getting buds on it. I got the bottom of the 4 x 8 foot bed lined with cardboard then started adding small branches I collected on my walk. Weather permitting I should be able to have that bed finished and ready to plant within the next few days. The temperatures are down to a more seasonal level now with night time temps dipping to mid to high 20's. Hopefully the peach tree will go back to sleep for a while. I tried nurturing a Venus flytrap once @Sueby. They really like a lot of humidity. It lived for a few weeks then died. Maybe there weren't enough bugs for it to eat.

I just read that they love eating mosquitoes and we ALL despise those nasty suckers .( Pun intended)

Well, not exactly "in the garden" today, but when they grow up they'll be in the garden, tilling & fertilizing. I got some mulch today for the chicken pens, then went to Tractor Supply for feed & heard the little peeping. I surely do not need more chickens, but a few more can't hurt anything. I couldn't resist. Lol
