What did you do in the garden today?

Congrats that's a job! I haven't forced myself yet... kind of like chicken math I'd much rather be prepping garden! Or planting or almost anything! 😂
Like picking up after the dog in the yard?

I'm weird, I like reorganizing. It's like a puzzle putting things away and getting everything to fit.

After 16 years both of my Rose of Sharon trees died. One didn't make it past 2021, the other was gone last Spring.

You can see the remaining stumps on the right.

I pulled out chickweed on the two front corners of this plot, edging is visible on the left.

The stumps are rotting off at ground level but there still are roots below. I'm thinking of removing the edging and making taller block walls like I did with my Japanese maple.

I could add about 6" of soil on top, plant some annuals this year. And maybe add a small trellis against the porch, and a Clematis?

Thinking here...

Protect your arms and legs.
Put a broad area of vaseline on your shovel handle.
ID two mounds, tick them off a bit, and swap a couple shovel fulls from one to the other. The guardians head for the queen.
I had great success with it in Alabama and Florida.
Genius! ❤️💚☘️

Not sure why, but no owls mess with this skunk, she is mostly white. She visits here every Spring, has some babies under one of my sheds, then the whole group will waddle away together. I see them but I'm grateful I've never smelled them...they've never decided to "cut loose" in my yard. Thank you Ms. Skunkarooni, for the little things in life & your consideration, my nose appreciates it. Lol

They are very cute!

The honeybees were stinging my black giant winter melon babies, so used the 12 inch by 12-inch aluminum foil sheets from Costco to cover them. I rolled the aluminum onto a plastic tube before I put them on the baby winter melon. I put the foil tubes on right when the flower closed. I hope it works.
In a few days the baby squash grew out of the bottom of the foil, so I know it's working. I taped another aluminum tube over the bottom. This should be enough for them to survive. Hopefully the skin on the young squash will toughen up on the next 12 inches. The aluminum is wrapped in a way that it gives way if it grows fatter.
