What did you do in the garden today?

I'm very glad I marked where the potato rows were last year, because you never get all the potatoes! I have 6-8 volunteers coming up. I took out some seed potatoes, and didn't need many for those two rows, that's for sure!

I'll have to check for more volunteers in the other rows. Bet I don't need many seed taters this year at all.

I feel bad for all the sprouting taters I'm going to be tossing into the woods. Sorry, spuds. We should have eaten more of you.

Celebrity is also resistant to a blight I get.
Early girl is good because it's well early
San Mariano is probably the best for canning. Not usually for slicing since it's long not round. It's a Roma type which doesn't have much juice .

I just love tomatoes.... All varieties. I have 46 plants in the garden this year. Honestly I'll probably squeeze in a few more if I find new varieties at the nursery when I go.... Tomato math!

I hear ya on tomato math! I planted 45 pots of different tomatoes. 5 of something else never sprouted. YAY! I can plant 5 more pots of tomaotes!

Heat yesterday got to me, I didn't have much energy today. I made myself turn the top 4" of raised bed #1 and plant cantaloupes and watermelons. I also tucked in some borage.

Then I placed netting over the entire bed to keep cats and squirrels out.

I've got 6 dozen scrambled eggs in the freeze dryer - cooked ones.

I'm looking forward to testing their rehydration for camping etc.

Waiting on the humming birds. They're late by two weeks, but have been spotted 8 miles down the road. I bet they'll show up tomorrow or monday.

I hate privets.... Ugh. My neighbors must think I'm the worst, I have privets... I randomly hit them with the chainsaw every few years... Eventually I'll pull them out.

Omg... We are in an all out war with privet. It spreads like crazy. Smells amazing when it flowers though...

Thanks to the Russian Sage, which I am allergic to, and the gross 'lord knows what' that was living in the soil between the weed barrier and the mud, I spent the whole day in a allergy sinus' headache haze. I'm glad to have that project done and that darn invasive crap out of my firebreak.

Dame's rocket is blooming here earlier than I've ever seen it. Everything is about 3 weeks ahead of normal.

At the bee meeting, people were talking about ticks, how they're out (early) and BAD this year. Someone said when there isn't much snow cover, the next season is bad. If the ticks lay eggs on bare ground, even if it's frozen, the eggs can hatch. If there's snow, the eggs die.

Gonna be a long tick season...

muscovy ducks are a tick remedy.
