Saw this working in the yard yesterday. I did not see a variegated one yet. It's a weed so I know it's coming.I just discovered an app, iNaturalist, and it identified this as American jumpseed. It also confirmed the other as Asiatic dayflower. And @NanaK was on the right track, it's in the spiderwort family!
We space them out only enough to put small tomato cages around them. So the cages touch. They are that close together. In a raised bed, we usually skip the middle spot for a little more airflow. So three rows of 13-14, but that middle row gets one less plant.did not know that peppers like to be close to each other! I'm filing that bit of knowledge away for next year. I have them spaced out, the same as the tomatoes.
I found Milky Spore is the best solution for Japanese beetles. When I moved in my last two houses, there were hundreds of Japanese beetles showed up the first year. After I apply Milky Spore, less than half amount showed up the next year and very few after that. I just caught these few by hands and drown them in soapy water.Today I started digging out some grass in one corner of the garden. I kept finding Japanese Beetle grubs, so I put those in a bucket for the chickens. I must have collected 50-60 grubs. Free chickie snack today.
Yeah, that means I have a lot of grubs still out there, because I didn't dig up that much grass. I find it oddly therapeutic to do this; maybe it's the free chickie snack element.
Yep... I have those in my strawberry bed. Kinda pretty but also a bit invasive.Saw this working in the yard yesterday. I did not see a variegated one yet. It's a weed so I know it's coming.
Pretty blue flowers and there is my finger.

I'd love to plant datura but it's so toxic to my pasture animals so I don't dare. I shall live vicariously through you...My lace cap hydrangea is blooming. Years with a late frost it does not bloom so I am very happy to see it this year.
