What did you do in the garden today?

Corn!!

I'm stoked with the progress. Worried about the heat wave we're having ruining all our hard work. 😂 It was 98 here today, supposed to break 100 tomorrow.

I think the clover is going to die.... That's ok, it was an experiment anyway. DH wants to replace it with fake turf.... I don't blame him, but I don't want to. I like planting things....

We picked 4# of blackberries yesterday! Today I picked a cucumber that I didn't notice, it's quite large. Probably seedy, but we'll see. Blueberries are close to getting ripe. I need to remember to fertilize them more often.

My back is getting a little better every day. Hurts after work every day though. Makes it hard to go water and cook, etc.

I have planted corn, cucumber, tomatoes, green beans, Lima beans, okra, beets, endive, potatoes, strawberry, cilantro, ground cherry, purple and green cabbage, spinach, Swiss Chard, onion, pumpkin, peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, yellow and crook neck squash, and sweet potatoes

My list is similar, zone 9a here, so not planting cabbage or spinach until late summer. No ground cherry or crook neck squash, and only 'regular' potatoes. But lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, peppers and my garlic will be harvested this weekend! I think about all of the species of edible plants or food producing plants I have growing and it sort of blows my mind. 🤣

It's very windy here.

I'm in 9a as well. I planted the cabbage a little late but it's ok bc I will still harvest the leaves.

Not weird. Or I'm weird. I can't tolerate bleach, perfumes/scents, and corn, to name a few.
Oh yeah...some of those dreaded perfumes some folks drench themselves in are wicked. I recall one that was popular in the 80s, I think it was appropriately named Poison? To me it smelled like a cat's old litter box, badly beyond need of cleaning. Another perfume to hit my nostrils smelled like intense BO...like who in their right mind Wants to stink like that on purpose???
😆 I really had a lot of occasions where I'd enter a store or a line & need to U turn myself right back out again, just couldn't do it, many times I was gagging, trying my best not to puke as I fled to fresh air.

thank you for the information. that's what I hear but I thought it was some kind of bird.
Ditto! It really does sound like a noise my Chickens & Guineas make! Isn't it amazing how loud they can project? After work the Guineas were running around & when they heard it, they ran over towards the house looking for who was making that sound. 😆 It was funny, they kept tilting heads then running & looking but never thought to go up the steps onto the deck. Good thing I guess, they are more dinosaur like than the chickens, would've been frog on their menu.

Anyone remember last Weekend when I said DH killed a skunk in our garage and I was pretty certain she was a lactating momma?

Well, just found her babies. They are in a den underneath my goat house. There's 3 of them. I don't think they are older than 3 or 4 weeks. Eyes barely open. They are hungry and searching for food or water. I'm trying to coax them out so I can catch them. I have already caught one. I feel helpless... It's going to storm tonight. Probably wet under there and I don't want them to die where I can't get to them. They are about the size of a newborn kitten. So tiny...

Awww, see if you can contact a local licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Most ask that you bring critters to them but a few may offer to come out to you, or at least give best advice on how to catch & procede. Despite their stink butts, skunks can be very sweet personality wise. Years ago I helped some by getting kitten milk replacement & feeding with a small syringe then a tiny bottle. They were under a neighbor's shed & the mother was killed. I used my big fishing net & just scooped them out. It is so heartwarming & a blessing to help any baby critter, & I cherish those times, but let me tell ya, you practically cannot leave the house for a few weeks, it is time consuming to do all by yourself. I had to use vacation time from my job then. I came to greatly appreciate all wildlife mamas & their dedication. From sun up to sun down, it's just look for food & feed the young'uns.
