What did you do in the garden today?

I have a hollyhock seedling that came up where the old plant was. It's about 2 inches tall. :lau

Is there a way to encourage it to grow a bit before the end of the season? How do I take it through winter?
a little fertilizer. I do nothing for winter.

I knew I missed some cucumbers bc the vines are dying. I know what I’m doing differently next year- namely tying to make sure not in watermelon patch!
The wild loofah isn’t getting as big as last years.
The snake bean is covered in blooms!
Kinda bummed my chickens won’t eat okra. They just look even whe. I break open

Morning. The bees are out in force today, thankfully. They do love the borage.

Garden is coming along nicely. I'm going away next week so I'm going to have to uncover the squash & cucumbers. I don't want to but no way DH is going to hand pollinate everything for me every day so it looks like I fight the bugs all summer. Oh well.

Love seeing all the garden pictures. Lima beans are all in the freezer. Still getting tomatoes 🍅 and eggplant has 2 little ones. Need to start getting beds ready for Fall planting. Trying Seminole pumpkins for the first time. My pumpkin vine over the chicken pen is growing every day. It's fun to watch.

I remember reading an analogy in my philosophy class a long time ago and can relate to it with my sour dough adventure. It went something like this, "A Zen master overfilled his student's cup with tea and explained that like this cup his student was filled with his own preconceptions and biases. Like this cup if our minds are filled with fixed beliefs, we cannot embrace fresh insights. By “emptying our cup,” we create space for deeper understanding and growth.

All I had to do was follow this video and my sour dough bread would turn out the same. I feel like I went around in a circle.

It took a while but I finally got the paths around the raised beds cleaned up with my string trimmer yesterday. There were enough peas to pick again today to fill another baking sheet, which is now in the freezer.

The newer leaves of the collard greens aren't looking as dark-green as they should so I'll give them a shot of weed tea fertilizer today.

Blanched green beans tonight and put them on a tray to freeze.

Cleaned a bunch more ground cherries. Thinking about making Apple-Ground Cherry pie for 4rh of July.

I think I'm going to clean out the cukes beds and try one more time to plant pole beans there... Can't hurt.
The apple ground cherry pie sounds so good.
