What did you do in the garden today?

The only tomatoes I have growing are small tomatoes like Black truffle and Purple Zebra. This is a picture of my black truffle tomato, but it could also be Black plum, since it's a volunteer I found where last year's black truffle was planted. I sprinkled it with salt, mozzarella, minced basil and olive oil.

Something interesting...I've tried more than a few "bug repellents" & most of them leave the skin feeling sticky or oily. I tried this, on the hunch of the ingredients & guess what, it works! No greasy after feel either. This morning the no-see-ums, skeeters & midges & biting flies were Everywhere. I figured I'd try this & sprayed on arms & legs & neck. No more bugs bothered me. It smells nice, too. Thought I'd share.

15 pages behind! I haven’t walked the garden in two days…I suppose I should go out there.

Busy with a variety of other things. Maybe this coming week I can dig up the old strawberry bed and get some fall stuff decided on- for planting there.

I have to chop my sour dough into small pieces for my chickens to eat it. I got an idea after the minor labor involved. I will try putting slices of sour dough in my Ninja blender tomorrow morning, I think it will work. I feed them regular feed in the afternoon, so they get the nutrition they need. I think the sour dough helps them with digestion.

I will be cutting back on my daily sour dough recipe, since I am spoiled with eating only fresh bread. I ordered a couple of 6-inch oval bannetons to accommodate a 2-cup flour recipe.

Didn’t realize one of my water globes had run out and had to rush out with the watering can today to rescue my outdoor basil. But thank the Lord it appears to have bounced back, no harm done.

I also did one last round of the garden stores for seeds. Most of them have packed those away for the season. Do they not realize how much growing season is left???

We had 3 more load 8 bales/rest 1 hour sessions to go with the hay. But on our trip out we saw distant rain (I can see 30 miles) and heard thunder. Change of plans. All 3 loads now,not later.
We got it all in with a stiff breeze and cloud cover and 98°. One minute later, the rain started falling.
100 bales. Two years with of hay almost, from one cutting on one field. Phew
All tucked into the vented curing shed.

I am loving it. 4:30 and still no bugs have been bothering me at all! I'm telling you.This is breaking some kind of record for me, Because after twenty four hours of rain, mosquitoes and anything that bites is buzzing usually attacking me. I had this other stuff that worked fairly decent, had lemon and lavender oils in it, but it was so oily, I can't stand that feeling. I'd rather feel dry and bug free if possible.
