What did you do in the garden today?

Pulled one, just to see if it was ready. First time growing garlic. Do they need more time?
Also - I cut off the stem because I will be mincing and freeze drying the garlic - no need to cure.View attachment 3873650

When I came home from work I saw all the leaves on 3 apple trees were GONE! Totally Gone!

I already lost 1 apple tree last week when deer went after the apples...they pulled the entire young tree over & snapped it near the bottom of the trunk. That was my 1st apple tree.

I will post pics soon. It is just really sad.

I guess I need to get those giant hair net type things, big net bags for trees.

Deer destroyed 1 tree but some kind of insects finished off the remaining 3 trees leaves. I am pretty sad about it all right now.

I've done sprays, pellets, soap bars, perfume, dryer sheets, multiple hot wires, double fencing around the orchard, motion triggered sprayers, wolf/mountain lion urine, lights...
I finally went with large steel T-posts and 2/4 wire 48 inches high and made HUGE rings around every tree I have left. I started with 40 trees and between deer damage and 3 years of the highest level of drought, I have 13 left. This is the first year I've not suffered damage and FINALLY have apples!

I found out from this video that pineapple suckers will fruit faster than the crown when planted. I left a pineapple plant in its pot to die after I took its fruit, and suckers grew out of it.

Have you tried the squash fries? I had a couple of squash last year and was thinking of french fries and decided for squash fries. I should have cut them thinner because OMG they were so good. Thinner would have been better though.

Yes! I make them in the air fryer, they're so good. I'm glad you mentioned it tho, I have some eggplants I'm going to make fries out of tonight.

Sounds yummy. I need to try eggplant bc no one in my family has ever eaten it as far as I know.

Fair set up today. I’m exhausted, but still have some required things to take care of. Two chickens escaped. One was caught within 10 min, the other we couldn’t even find! A fair volunteer called me to tell me it was found…6 hours after it got loose! We had left a cage behind to put her in if she was found while we were at home for lunch. But, basically it’s all fair most of the day for the next week. Hawaiian shaved ice truck, here I come!!

I entered 3 veg, and one canned item into judging. Will find out results today (maybe?). Also entered two fine arts pieces - results today or tomorrow.
