2 years ago, I planted jalapeños right next to my habaneros and then used those seeds to replant last year. This 2nd generation of jalapeños turned out to be far hotter than habaneros. They must've cross pollinated, oops!

I had the opposite problem last year. I had some cayenne next to the anaheim in previous years, not realizing the anaheim were basically bell pepper level of spiciness, and reused the seeds. The resulting cayenne were very bland.

This year I got new seeds from a packet, and nothing but cayenne. Hopefully I will never run into that problem again!

Oh, yeah, peppers will cross! But this plant isn't from my own seed, or I'd figure it was from a cross.

We might have to buy jalapenos when we make hubby's salsa. Assuming our habanero plant produces!

You could always buy some jalapeno plants from a nursery. If they are fruiting, pop one in your mouth to see if the flavor and temp are up to par. I've done this with Birds Eye chillies. The girl helping me tried stop me out of fear they were too hot. They were yummy. I bought 2 plants.

Simply adding other hot chillies, in addition to the jalapenos, to the salsa would certainly spice it up. My husband and I both love spicy food. I grow a variety of hot peppers in my garden.

Squash are toast, SVB got them.

Tomatoes have slowed down, but I was away and didn't pick or water for 5-6 days. I see blossoms.

Melons are all over the trellises, picked my first cantaloupe, which was good but not as sweet as I like.

I used some soft plastic chicken fence and zip-ties. We'll see how that works.

My garden is small and densely planted so cross pollination is inevitable for me. I usually save seeds, it makes replanting a bit of an adventure... Sometimes it works out great, other times not so much.

Been there, but in reverse. It's insane.
I told him when he buys a house, he's hiring a moving team. I'll pack, but I'm not going down steps with heavy stuff.

I've told our other kids that they will be disowned if they rent an apartment that isn't on the ground floor... Let it be known.

Has anyone else planted a garden just for their chickens to eat and play in?

I planted a small section of my garden with wheat berry sprouts, sunflowers sprouts, broccoli sprouts, lentil sprouts, chia sprouts, in addition to comfrey, mint, feverfew, lemon balm, rosemary, black berries, lambs quarter, etc.

The sprouts will turn into full size plants if the chickens fail to keep up. I toss more seeds down every other day. They love to forage through there.

Went out to pick my asparagus bean and I waited too long . Got 17 cherry tomatoes and a crookneck squash. The 2 strawberries didn't make it in the house . Gotta go move the water hose and get something made for dinner. I'm just being lazy today.

My strawberries never make it to the house.

My cherry tomatoes never make it to house. I need to defoliate the cukes so I can see them.! I pick a few green beans every day to pickle / eat or freeze. I need to soak cukes in brine for my kosher pickles once I have a day free until then they'll be in fridge.
