Well... The poultry wound spray DID NOT work for me as a mosquito spray... I doused myself TWICE to no avail. I was getting eaten alive so badly that I only lightly watered half the garden. Had to wash after coming back inside because I was so slimy and sticky from the spray. Started counting mosquito welts and quit after 20...

I finally tried some repellant that I had bought hears ago for a mission trip. It contains picaridin. Lasted all day. Container says lasts 14 hours. Not one bite, no smell or greasy feel.

I just posted pictures of my middle grandson in his football gear on what's the temperature where you are.

Was the seed from packet, or saved seed? Kind of looks like a white spaghetti squash. Saved squash seeds will be a cross of ones you had growing the previous year, or even from a neighbor's.

Have you grown spaghetti squash before? It could be immature, so I would suggest letting it continue growing until the vines die. I've heard others who have had strange things grow from seed packets.

They sure grow too good here. Every time I think, yeah, this year I'll only plant 3 hills....down from 6 a couple years ago. We try very hard not to miss any. The one that got away is a proven fact, unlike fish stories.

my hulles pumpkin dropped those few fruits they had. only male blossoms now, a lot of them. this is the very first time they sprouted at all (3/10).

my dogs digged up 2 spots where I sowed black turtle beans it seems there is 1 plant that sprouted in each spot. if so I will grow those for seeds only. as we have a long growing season I hope to have time to grow some later as well.

cucumbers, yellow zucchini and muscade of provence pumpkin I sowed around my trees in my orchard sprouted. also some yellow salad tomatoes and melons I transplanted there are alive. I might have veggies in autumn.

I didn't prune my indeterminate tomatoes in my kitchen garden as they got sunburn. I was so disappointed. as they grew as a bush, surrounded even pepper plants I now have green tomatoes and a few healthy peppers.

Hey all. Been gone for almost a week so I'm way too behind to even try to catch up! DH & I went camping/wheeling in PA.

Came home to lots of garden work, lol. I lost a tomato plant to stem rot. I've never had that before, I hope I caught it before it spreads, but probably not.
I have cucumbers in the dehydrator for pickle chips along with yellow squash (tastes like Lays chips, well to someone who hasn't had lays chips in 10 years anyway). Picking a nice flow of sungolds, strawberries, eggplants, green beans & squash.

Garlic is almost dried, onions are laying over but not quite brown enough yet. Spaghetti squash has powdery mildew starting, I trimmed it up quite a bit. 2nd sowing of bush beans looking good.

Thats about it! Typical summer garden stuff. Hope I didn't miss anything & everyone is doing well.

Oh, I need to harvest the edamame!

I often make chips from kale (or beet root leaves, swiss chard, broccoli leaves, etc.) sprinkled with cheddar or parmesan cheese in the oven on low for 45 mins. I love veggie chips!!!

They watch the athletes and band kids like hawks, but it's still so dangerous. I quit the band flag core in 86 because they wouldn't let us take breaks in weather like this. After 5 hours in it, 10 ppl passing out-i just left and never went back.i was sick for days. Oh how times have changed.

Good to have you back @Sueby. I hope your back is feeling better. Some one a day or two ago mentioned they were concerned about not having an outdoor wood burning stove if the SHTF. I think it was @Molpet, not sure. But in a pinch you can use a charcoal grill to burn wood to cook over. That’s on my plan. I’ve got lots of maple and small oak trees that would make a nice fire. If you don’t have a charcoal grill you can take an oven rack and set it on cinder blocks for an improvised stove. Just a thought.

We had a taste of what it would be like when Katrina hit and we were without power for over 2 weeks. No stores open except for cash and like a couple at a time.
We had to stand in lines to get ice.
We used our grill for cooking and coffee + tea. You had to drink the tea all that day or it would sour. You had to boil any water for consumption or cooking….fun times (not)
