What did you do in the garden today?

What variety did you order?

I was looking for another variety to add to the Music that I've been planting for years. Last year I got some German White, and I couldn't tell any difference between the two types. The cloves looked the same, and as far as I could tell, tasted the same. I was hoping for a bit more bite to the flavor.

So I looked up different varieties, and thought metechi sounded good. I have some on order to plant this fall for next year.
I'm pretty sure the galic garlic I'm growing is Red Russian garlic, and it has a spicy bite. Here's a random site that sells it.

That sounds good! Let me know what you think next year when you harvest it.

One of my goals is to eat more garlic. It is such a healthy thing to eat.
I started growing it a couple years ago actually. I saved the largest heads of last year's for seed, and got larger heads this year.

I put some in my sweet relish today. And yeah, it's garlicky and kind of spicy, which surprised me the first time I tasted it. I have some hanging in my kitchen.

Frying some more fresh dug potatoes for supper. Fried eggs and taters. Can't beat it!

That's what I've read you should do: Plant the biggest ones for the next season. I've been doing that and man, I get some whopper cloves!

This year's garlic harvest (including the ones to plant for next year) weighs 10 pounds. I'd say I planted 80-90 cloves last fall.

I have about 60 Music (my cloves) and I'm going to guess I'll get 20ish cloves of Metechi to plant in a few weeks.

Nice. I'm just going to stick to the one variety I have. I planted only 16 cloves last fall, not nearly enough. I'll plant more than that when October rolls around.

As far as eating a lot of garlic, you could roast it. Cut off the tops to expose the cloves, wrap in foil and bake. It gets soft and it can be squeezed out of the skins. Makes a good breadspread.

we had very little rain yesterday and today. better than nothing.
Ditto here. Fog & mist are not rain, but yeah it was better than nothing. Clouds gave us a break. Wednesday was brutal hot & I literally felt my skin on the back of my legs burning, despite using sunscreen. Today was nice, 60s & 70s for a few days with chances of rain. We need it.
