What did you do in the garden today?

Hard to find ingredients for our Holiday fruit cookies. Candied cherries I had to order online. Fruitcake is getting hard to find. I like fruitcake. Have not seen the round tins in years. I did find one pound loaf.
We have a local company that makes fruit cakes all year round it's incredible. Grandma's down in beatrice nebraska. They ship.

I don't eat fruitcake, but my Mom does - I bought her one from here last year & she loved it. Expensive tho! She used to make her own & it was such a looong process. She spent months & months basting that thing. https://www.grandmasbakeshoppe.com/collections/fruitcakes

I'm headed out to see if my lettuce/spinach tower made it thru the bad cold the other night, I don't think it did. I'll be sad. Check on the carrots too.

& block off the nests from that one stupid bird that keeps sleeping in them. The ground is snowy & icy, I can't keep going in & out blocking & unblocking the nest box. But I can walk out there with a .22 & end the madness. 😜 (kidding, mostly)
Yep. That's my place. Lol.
Love their southern bourbon pecan. I may, or may not, have that recipe. Lol

Ever since I had long squash (Hyotan) coming out my ears, and got tired of eating chicken squash soup, I started making Indian squash curry without any meat as a base. This morning, I tried heating up a can of Palm brand corn beef with my Indian squash curry base and I liked it. The Palm brand has large chunks of beef and isn't as salty as other brands that I tried, so it was perfect. The meat in other brands were minced and more salt was added, so it would clash with my already seasoned Indian curry. However, real boneless meat like chicken, beef or lamb taste better in my opinion. But for storage, flavor, convenience and ease of cooking, Palm brand corn beef is better.

I will do some research on canning meat on Youtube.

I am making an attempt to heal my chickens Bumble Foot. I have never done it before, so I asked copilot.

Copilot is amazing, but I caught it making a wrong statement once about a company I was doing research on for investing and it apologized and gave a new answer, so it is not always right.

To treat bumblefoot in chickens using Hyland's Homeopathic PRID Drawing Salve, follow these steps:

  1. Soak the Foot: Soak the affected foot in warm water with Epsom salt for about 10-15 minutes to soften the skin and reduce swelling.
  2. Clean the Area: Gently clean the foot with an antiseptic solution to remove any dirt or debris.
  3. Apply the Salve: Apply a generous amount of PRID Drawing Salve directly to the affected area.
  4. Bandage the Foot: Wrap the foot with a clean bandage to keep the salve in place and prevent dirt from entering the wound.
  5. Monitor and Repeat: Check the foot daily, reapply the salve, and change the bandage as needed until the infection is gone.
This method can help draw out the infection and promote healing without the need for surgery.

Hope it works for you. Keep us posted with results.

Right now, I am waiting for my drawing salve from amazon. In the meantime, I am trying to tame my injured hen with food. I got her to approach me when she is hungry, and I can pick her up when she goes for the food. But she still acts scared, so she doesn't trust me yet. I try not to get attached to my hens since I do eat them on their third year.
