What did you do in the garden today?

I just about finished weed eating around the garden beds. The trimmer ran out of gas when there was just a couple square feet of grass left to trim, so good enough for me.

It's been dry here. Strange, strange, strange. I noticed that some of my little onion plants were starting to turn tan so I soaked everything up good. I don't know if it was my imagination, but the kale, cabbage, bok choi and collards perked up almost immediately after getting soaked.

I have a bird trying to build a moss nest above my door. It is not a Carolina wren.
We had a barn swallow do that above our door one year. Kids thought it was cute so we let her stay. Big mistake..., 😂 1. She would try to attack anyone coming out the door or down the walkway. 2. The poop from the babies got EVERYWHERE 🤮 3. The birds were carrying mites which started to INFEST my door frame.

Never ever again...

I do have some Carolina Wrens which have nested inside my garage for the past 2 years. They are much more fastidious apparently. 😉

My garden planting and spring readiness is almost complete... Still have the hugelkultur bed to complete for the pumpkins, watermelon, and cushaw.... But everything else is DONE. I do need to put some mulch over the top of the cardboard and get the trellis in for the indeterminate tomatoes but the in-ground garden is planted.

I'm pooped and hungry.

Just finished chopping up a 25 foot long row of dirt clods with my hoe. It was lawn last year, this year it's where I'll be growing my rattlesnake beans, and next to where my peppers will go.

Unlike my raised beds that are in total shade after 2PM during the summer, the new beans/peppers area has full sun pretty much all day long. It'll need lots of water.

New roof, new siding, new deck for me.
can repair the greenhouse enough to get it through the season myself
I can repair the roof of the brand fricken new chicken broody coop myself.
I lost all the planters in the garden tower.
few branches in the orchard.
It dented the crap out of the metal siding too.
I am exhausted and we got off easier than others.
Contractor and claims guy will both be here tomorrow.
2 inch hail......so sick of hail

Big Hug!!🤗

Just like chicken math, there is plant math.

There is a related illness, called "Plant Amnesia/Seed Amnesia." That particular malady goes like this: You buy/order plants/seeds. They aren't at your house, or, are tucked away, out of sight. Seed packets are very good at this! You forget that you have them. Totally gone from your memory, or just a little hazy thought like, "Yeah, I have some of those somewhere, or on order."

You buy more plants/seeds, picking them out in person. You take them home. Now the flashbacks start. "Oh! Didn't I already buy some of these? Where are they? When do I need to plant them?"

Sometimes the trigger is finding several (or several dozen) plants or seed packets tucked away, safely waiting for their time to go into the soil. Sometimes the memories flood back when someone says, "Honey, why did you get more of these? You have 50 of them stored on the back porch or in the basement. And didn't you say you ordered more stuff from Gurney's last week? Where will you plant it all?"

sounds very familiar, lol.

Bird making the nest is an Eastern Phoebe. Looked it up and then remembered I looked it up last year. Spent the day in the city with appointments. Ugh. After my video visit the doctor prescribed a med to help with the rhythm. DW was present and heard the whole visit. On the way to town, she said the med must be to prepare for the procedure. I had to tell her again. She inserts her thoughts in place of facts a lot. Sometimes she will say well I thought, and I will say that is how the misunderstanding started. Makes her mad but is true.
