What did you do in the garden today?

Out of all the pepper plants I had that I planted in the garden I only have about 6 of the ones that I started from seed. On a good note I did get the garden watered today. I'm going to try to help my daughter in law start gardening. I don't know what she does wrong or if it's just the chaos of life but she doesn't have a green thumb.

I don't have a green thumb either but I am stubborn and love healthy food.

I planted some tomato seeds directly in the garden a week or two ago and they're popping out of the ground today. Just another experiment, to see how well direct-seeded tomato plants grow and produce compared to the same variety of tomato plants that I started indoors.
Always wondered why direct seeding was not recommended.

In our climate (similar to yours, I think), our growing season isn't long enough for tomatoes and peppers to bear unless I start them inside about 6-8 weeks ahead of our "safe to plant" date.

I start my frost-sensitive plants around April 1 in the green house. This year, I started hubby's hot peppers on a heat mat mid-March. The plants are about 6" tall. The peppers I planted in the green house are about 1" tall.

The green house is only passive solar heat.

I know this is off topic but I posted this concern on another thread and received a very limited response. My one hen is walking around with her feathers fluffed up and clucking. She did have a wad of dried poop on her which we cleaned, she was not plugged up. She seems to be behaving ok otherwise - eating, laying, running, etc. I have not seen any indication of being infested with mites or other but I could have missed something. I’m concerned and have no idea what is going on. It’s the hen to the right.
