What did you do in the garden today?

Thunderstorm came through last night with horrible winds. Tore the mailbox apart and chased the chickens in, they refused to come out after it passed, and continued the self pruning of our trees.
Further investigation showed two large branches had given up the ghost plus the neighbor lost a pretty large tree trunk. Will help her cut that up later today.

I checked the paper towel seeds. Too much other stuff to do today so I don’t know how much other gardening stuff I will get done. 😵

I locked my 4 hens up until they start laying in their nest box. I was wondering why they stopped laying like they used too. I thought they were getting too old to lay, but I found out a couple of them were laying in the bushes. I found two separate nests the other day.

Tangent, but I stopped by Tractor Supply and today is the first time I saw actual chicken chicks in stock. (Two bins of Americaunas - one for straight run and one for pullets.) The closest I saw before this was a handful of Rouen duck hatchlings.

I’ve been busy these past 2 days. The remaining garden beds in the big garden area are almost completely ready for planting. The front yard is mowed and trimmed and the backyard is mowed but needs the trimming done. My fingerling potatoes are coming up. I counted 9 plants today. And the really good news is there are peaches developing. I have a bunch of flowers to plant as well as the tomatoes, but next must do is to clean the garage before the pellets arrive on Wednesday. A cold front is moving in overnight and into tomorrow so the cooler temperatures will make cleaning the garage a little easier.

Good Morning BYC Good Gardeners...

I am mighty happy that I am now a proud owner of a 1.2m high Black Genoa fig tree. I found a nursery still stock it in this cold weather. It is in dormant and today I will put it in a larger pot.

This baby fig tree will be sleeping in the shed at night and out in the sunniest spot during the day... "My Precious"...

This nursery told me that in my state's climate it is not ideal to grow starchy apple and they do not stock starchy apple type, only crunchy one. My family love apple with starchy texture, I love the crunchy one.

Now that I found this Mom&Dad nursery, I will be going there to buy my plants/trees there. We used to have many nurseries like that, but this one time we had this prolong drought that many small nursery went down, now mostly corporate own nursery.

Happy gardening....

Well, one our River Birchs and our Black Cherry lost some branches. Got them all trimmed off and cleared. After a brief visit to Olive Garden we returned and cut the neighbors fallen trunks up and hauled them over to our woodpile. Naturally mid way through this the chain saw blade dulled enough to make the final cuts more of a wearing away of the wood rather cutting BUT we were determined to muscle through to the end. I think the chickens felt neglected and maybe a bit frazzled with all the UNUSUAL activity around them.

Chicken Math.......I bought a new incubator; I think this one is better for mail-order eggs. I like the way it holds the egg up right, it also has a detachable fan for cleaning, non-slip silicone mat for lock down, easy lift handle, temperature and humidity indicator and external water refill draw.

This will be my second and last attempt at hatching standard White Cornish eggs. I failed a few years ago.
