What did you do in the garden today?

We got a little over half inch of rain yesterday! Yay! Weeded my onions and thinned my carrots today. I always feel bad when I thin carrots.... We usually have a plethora of white cabbage moths harassing my brassicas but they haven't been around the last couple weeks so I uncovered my cabbages for the Robins. Hoping they eat the slugs. I set some mouse traps after seeing mice this week. We have a new chicken feeder that doesn't waste feed so that should really help cut back on mice. And my neighbors cat apparently, according to them, has been bringing dead mice galore to their front door. He gets a raise! 😁 More treats for him.

I already took ins some dahlias I don’t have enough space for, then, while picking up the daycare dog, I saw the neighbor was giving away free tomato plants 🙈 yes, I restrained myself and only took 2, then, I had to buy extra pots and potting soil
I also planted some (red) basil and marigolds to keep pests away from the tomato plants

Wow, can‘t keep up here right now, have 21 baby chickens running around and sh..ting like there is no tomorrow, picked them up on Wednesday, Tuesday, hubby said he can’t stand them in the house, so built all of Tuesday a predator safe ( I hope) coop,
First time ever having Baby chicken without a hen, I had one broody, but she decided she will only look after babies which she has been sitting on for 21 days 😬

What is the plum grafted onto?
Wild plum prunus americana. Lots growing around here. Biggest is Adara plum used mostly as a interstem or rootstock. It is compatible with many prunus species including cherry. Goal sweet cherry on wild plum with Adara as an interstem. Smaller one has Shiro plum grafted onto it. Using abundant wild plums as rootstocks.

weed cloth :caf
I have used cardboard in the garden. It works great for making new beds but,, ,the cardboard does compost and you do get weeds. If kept up on its great for the veg garden.
But I have two lavender beds, packed wit currently 10 plants in each bed. I got them cleaned out, again. It is a tough chore. It makes it tough to mow, you cant weed eat and not whack something you didnt want to.
so,, I can put cardboard down with wood chips or weed cloth???

I am going with cardboard, I do want to buy a boarder so I can mow and weed eat easier and not kill my plants.
