What did you do in the garden today?

You don’t save seeds or are they a hybrid variety?

I do save seeds but from time to time I buy new seeds. as I had enough of old seeds I didn't buy any last year but they don't sell them anymore. I bought those seeds in a (german) supermarket. as I didn't expect those seeds to sprout I have got similar variety (shorokshary) seeds from abroad. it is too late to sow them now. I might try a few.

My heart aches for you TJ. I had an infestation that was like no other a few years ago.

I hand picked the eggs using tape. Then I would put that tape in a ziplock bag and throw away.
But, I had more success waiting to plant the squash. I’m about to put some out as they should have hatched and left.
they were a reason we got a lot of chickens. I turn them loose in garden at end of season to get the buggers.
I’m sorry.
I did successfully operate on one stem and remove it - taping up after
I feel for you. Nasty bugs. I once injected soap water in the stem to kill it. Seemed to work. Glad we don't have those here. Squash grow like weeds. We have a saying that goes like this. Don't leave your car doors unlocked during zucchini season. You may find a bag of them.

Hubby pruned a lot of dead stuff off the palm last weekend - and being an Aussie male - left it for me to deal with. So I chopped it up and filled the bin, then started pruning the chinese pepper in the backyard. It seems to want to cover the entire backyard, which is good where I want shade and a blinking nuisance over the clothesline, because the wild birds sit in it, and dirty my clean washing. (thank goodness it is not mulberry season) Did a little pruning of the Native Agonis (weeping pepppermint) and used that to change out some of the perches in the avairies. All my perching is native tree branches from my garden, so much easier to keep the birds feet healthy.

Thinned apples but not done yet. Watered, weeded, and getting beans, cukes and zukes seeds out to germinate and plant this week. After being gone for a week, came home to dahlias almost all up, tomatoes thriving, more things sprouting. The mole catcher caught the second mole before I left. Cats have caught at least 4 baby ones. Yay! The chickens will eat fresh baby moles and shrews. They don't like mice.

You said Feher earlier, Feher Ozon? (I feel like this has come up before. If it has and I’m repeating myself I apologize.) Nothing wrong with trying new varieties instead, of course!

This is where we meet to swap veggies- I bring the watermelon and you bring me squash!

When my cats catch moles and voles they leave on my doorstep bc they know I will give them salmon!

Had my first chigger bite of the season. Put a little charcoal lighter on it. Gone. I have tried many methods for SVB. Trap crops treated with imachlorprid systemic insecticide. Soil drench. Approved for food crops. Bio Advanced brand. Menards had it on clearance. Not sure where I will get it next. I know most of you will not eat a crop treated this way. However, a trap crop will reduce SVB numbers by preventing a new generation. Works on squash bugs also. Butternut squash group Moschata is not bothered by SVB. There is a Moschata type used like Zuke when young.
