What did you do in the garden today?

The best tasting roasted eggplant variety to me is the round glossy Black Beauty. However, it must be picked when they are young and tender. I prune the branches back whenever I harvest to keep the plant compact and to prevent from getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of fruits it produces.

My grafted Black Beauty eggplant on my devil plant has finally set some fruit. I wonder if they will taste the same. I am going outside to take a picture.

This is the first time in 10 years that I didn't plant eggplant. This makes me feel better, thank you for sharing so I can enjoy your lovely plant.

It might be possible that your big trees could be transplanted. But I don't know how expensive it would be to hire the arborist or whoever does it, or if it would be worth the cost to you.
I can't take away all my trees and gardens. My hope is that someone will find joy in all of it when we move. If we have the house as a rental, which is the hope, when we retire we'll move back and let my son have the family home. If possible, we'll buy all the surrounding homes. No joke. Big goals. Unrealistic, yes. But, I can dream. I love this stupid house. Eventually we may build a retirement home at the property, but with the county.... That probably won't happen. It's not right how much they charge for permits. We discussed it, for $300 to have the meeting at all, they want over 60k in permitting...... For one house... Because of the trees... Trees we are trying to save. 🤣 Yeah no. Jesus I ramble...

I digress. I want someone to love my yard, even if they kill it. 😂 If it's a rental, I'll keep taking care of it anyway. 🤷‍♀️

One of my pale, kind of sickly looking peppers has formed the barest beginning of a pepper.

I also decided to try babying my equally-sickly squash seedling and dug out a plastic cloche - there’s a stretch of cooler weather coming and I’m hoping that will help keep it a little warmer and by extension help it recover.
I am also having a hard time with my sweet peppers, but I can grow squash. I think it has something to do with the season. The season for tomatoes in my area starts in October and fizzles out during the summer months.

So, also, those photos I meant to take. Yeah I got really, really, sunburned working in the yard and garden today instead. I have only a big water slide I set up for my kid and his friends as a photo of my hard work today. DH bought that at Costco yesterday without talking to me first.

So I had to pick up all the dog doo, mow, and set up shade. It was 92 and I had no idea.... And sweated off all my sunscreen and got in the pool with the kids and other mother. I fried.

How on earth can 60K be justified just for permission to build. That sounds like a perfect case of nonsense to me.
