What did you do in the garden today?

The slugs will have their last meal tonight. I spread Sluggo granules around the cabbages and beans.

I just finished running a PVC drain line from the pan under my new water heater, through the floor and out under the back deck. I think it and the electrical I ran would pass an inspection if I ever had it inspected. LOL. Attaching the PEX water lines to the heater will be next.

When is it the right time to harvest the dill flower heads for pickles? I'm going to have to freeze them to use later because my pickling cukes haven't even started vining yet. And does dill keep producing more flower heads after the first ones are cut off? This year is the first time that I've gotten dill plants to grow successfully so I'm clueless.
If my cukes aren't ready when the dill is ready I cut my dill plants then i hang it upside down and dry it . I wait until mine is just starting to go to seed. You can put it in your shed or in your root cellar etc. I place the plant in a large paper bag and tie that bag up. I make a lot of pickles and it works for me .it still has that yummy dill flavor . This is how I was taught to do it, but I'm sure there are many ways.

Garlic was ready so I dug mine up the other day. This was one of the earliest harvests I've done. Wasn't my best or largest garlic but we had no snow this winter until late and a dry spring. Glad I did it because we got over two inches of rain right after I got them dug out! Yikes! We really needed it, but man oh man the humidity now is crazy high..

Have you considered making an eggplant dip, like baba ganoush?
We love baba ganoush!

I dug one garlic plant up. It's not quite ready. But, oh, man! it was so good to have fresh garlic again! I'll be digging one up as we need some.

There is toum in my not-too-distant future! :drool

I've never tried it before! Just looked up what is- it sounds delicious and I'm going to make some! What is your favorite way to use it? Veggie dip? Pita?

Pop up storm brought a whole 15 seconds of light sprinkles but the accompanying wind dropped the temperature to 86 (91 heat index). Who'd have guessed that 90 would feel heavenly???
Remember how I said this was heavenly? Well the temp dropped even MORE... Down to 81, according to my Accurite weather sensor. I thought I'd take advantage of it by weeding my terribly overgrown asparagus beds. The weeds were threatening to choke out the new plants.

Wellllllllll..... I probably should have paid closer attention to the HUMIDITY levels. I did get the weeding done but the humidity was so freaking high that it was like working in a sauna. My clothes were so wet from sweat that they were dripping! And I was covered in dirt and had bugs dive bombing me...

***shudder***

I swear that a shower never felt so good. I even used a sugar scrub to help get the feeling of sweaty, dirty grime off... Followed by a cold water rinse afterwards. Ugh. I hate this hot weather...

Not necessarily... I have a BO that's 7 yrs old. I know many others on here have some even older. I just feel the heavy breeds are more prone to things like fatty liver, ascites, and reproductive disorders. Totally based upon my own observations. Real stats may differ...

BO don't live long in my (hot) climate. they are not good mothers here as they get hot and don't cover the chicks. I had british type BO and she got broody at 6 mo. unfortunately half of her chicks died as she kept getting up and panting. she also died in july at about 8 mo.
