What did you do in the garden today?

It's not even noon yet and the regular temperature is already 97 degrees... Ugh. So hot and sticky... I watered the garden and potted plants this morning to help them better tolerate the heat today.

Part of the zucchini plant that had collapsed has popped back up. I'm going to try to get some composed soil and bury the bottom of the plant to see if it regenerates... DH has decided he actually likes the zucchini fries I made last week.

I finally planted the pumpkins in the ground yesterday. Tossed all of the unused dying tomato plants in the compost. I never got to sell them because family and friends kept needing replacements but that's ok. That's what they were for.

On Monday before I left for that job, I saw the rat, I chased the rat, I killed the rat. I put him in the trash. He was quite large.

Up until I got home Tuesday night, I had been getting less than 5 hours of sleep every night since Thursday. On Tuesday my resting heart rate went up 4bpm and I was almost delirious. I slept in yesterday, it was glorious and my heart rate is back to normal. Being so tired, I had no appetite either so I also lost 2 pounds. Not amused. Between the stress, exhaustion and anxiety... I've decided I can't run on caffeine alone. 😂

I'm excited for this year's harvest! Tomatoes are really coming in strong this year. Here's one of many. That one is an Amish paste.

It sounds as if your country is no longer under communist/socialist control, and I'm very glad. Maybe the laws can eventually catch up with the new freedoms afforded to you all. I certainly hope it happens quickly!
It was a socialist democracy, and I think they changed it in the 70’s to a “Jewish democracy” whatever that means, but they still have these laws. They also still have laws from when the British were in charge, such as “no bears allowed to the beach” and “no eating sunflower seeds”. (It’s a 15 penny fine. And we don’t even use £££ hahaha). They also have a limit on how many people are allowed to be medical interns, and then they are surprised by the luck of MD doctors. Very stupid laws, that they aren’t even considering changing…

which variety and where did you buy it?
Mine have all bolted long ago
Ruby red leaf. I bought it from a vendor on Amazon. I always look for heat tolerant varieties because our Springs are usually too cold to plant early on but then turn hot quickly. I have been using a burlap shade cloth to cover in the early afternoon to evening.

You can bet we have our share of stupid laws on the books too!

I took a break after the work this morning. Yesterday really wore me out. I made potato salad for the family 4th of July dinner tomorrow. After I'm finished with the chickens I’ll be focusing on housework. I gathered another 2 eggs from my old hens. At this rate I will be getting 3 to 4 dozen per week from all of my hens. I need to donate more to our local food pantry.
