What did you do in the garden today?

I have a fair number of tomatoes on my plants! All still green. I did see one cluster of cherry tomatoes, and one of those was starting to turn yellow.

I am SOOOOO ready for fresh tomatoes! :thumbsup
Our cherry tomatoes have been ripening pretty well, we’ve pulled a fair amount so far. Our other love apples, Perons, are loading up but still green. So, we’re both on the same glide path it seems.

Having loose well draining soil makes a difference as well. Using sulfur at planting helps, mulching heavily and keeping the moisture even. Garlic does not like to dry out. Garlic likes a more acidic soil.
Interesting! I did not know about the sulfur. What do you use as a sulfur amendment?

I can't complain about my garlic. I grow the variety Music, and the cloves are plenty big, though there are only 4-6 in a bulb, usually.

The other variety I grew this year is Metechi. I picked that one for a stronger flavored garlic. I haven't tried it yet.

Do you get a full years worth of useable garlic? I notice that as the year rolls on after harvest and drying that we start to lose cloves due to drying out and shriveling. Last year we took a large amount of the small cloves and processed them into dry minced garlic so that we would have less loss.

Ours gets dry and shrivel-y too. This year, I'm going to chop and freeze a bunch.

I have a dehydrator, but can't imagine drying garlic in the house...!😳

We would hand peel and mince. Put the minced garlic on a baking sheet in a 175F oven for several hours, stirring periodically. But a dehydrator would probably be better.
