What did you do in the garden today?

It must have to do with the weather. Very cold & rainy start then straight into a big heat wave.

I wish I had a good outdoor place to dry my garlic & onions. Poor DH gets them in his shop. When you walk in the door the smell of garlic punches you in the face. :lau

It's annoying, it pops up in my beds & planters. Almost as annoying as it's sticky friend spurge.
I've seen you posting over the last few weeks! Your presence has been missed.

BEHOLD!!!

DH bought me the large harvest right. Costco, epic deal.

My neighbor up the street works for FedEx freight and delivered it this morning. I gave him a dozen eggs.

Golly, save purslane, eat fresh, dehydration, good nutrition.

Oh wow that is huge! I would love one
We had to team lift it. It's the first thing I've tried to lift alone in a long time that made me laugh when I tried.

I was planning to buy a medium one at some point, when I finally pulled the trigger.

DH went the extra mile for me. I may use this as an excuse to run another 20amp circuit right there. I have room on the panel but I'd have to do a side knockout... I already have a 20amp circuit there but it's not "dedicated". Not that what's tied to it ever draws more than 3amps. Even inrush. Yup, gonna go ahead and run some conduit. I've decided. Better safe than sorry.

Today I harvested zucchini, pruned tomatoes, clipped up the tomatoes, watered the clover, played with the chickens, and used the hedge trimmer to cut the grass that was growing over the sprinklers.

My corn is starting to tassel! I can see the beginnings of the ear nodes now as well. Not as many ears as I would have hoped for but anything is better than nothing. I didn't give it enough nitrogen on the last feeding before VT phase.

I also put the cover back on the pool today, cleaned the chlorine generator plates for the pool, picked up dog doo in the yard, pruned the grape vines to feed the leaves to the chickens, smashed two black widows, cleaned up our decorative water fountain that was pretty much just a spiderweb tree. Got the fountain at Costco last year; its the one with the brass colored cups. PITA to clean, but DS and I made quick work of it. Helps that I've only ever used soft water in it.

I played guitar out on the patio for a little bit, went inside and oiled the fretboards on my electric guitar and dear sons electric guitar. Ordered the solar fly trap from Arbico Organics finally today. Been wanting to pull the trigger on that for months. Today is my birthday, so I finally pulled the trigger.

happy birthday!

That's what I read, but it said it had a lemony flavor in the morning. Malic acid... that's what gives dried ants their tart flavor, isn't it? Never ate ants myself, but again, something I read.

I'm going to pick some purlsane in a little bit while it's still cool and give it a taste.

Got the tomatoes pruned up from the ground, Romas and the indeterminates. I'll only prune the Romas again to keep about 6 inches above the ground leaf-free.

I pruned a few lower leaves from my zucchinis, not because they needed it but to let them know what they're in for this year... regular prunings. They're not ready to be tied to the poles yet, but they will be soon. I'm looking forward to seeing how well vertically grown zucchinis do for me this year.

Going to do a thorough picking of the peas this morning. I've already cut off one row of plants because they weren't producing any more (the row that was unsupported by a trellis)

people here say if you eat a lot of purslane you will talk too much (drug effect).

Purslane grows as a weed here. I was just looking at some that I need to pull out next to the grass. It's invaded all of my garden beds. I do not eat it, not for any good reason, just principle. It's an invasive species here so I try to pull it before it throws it's 5 billion seeds for me to see sprouting next year. It will mature even if you pull it out of the ground. So I only feed it to my chickens if I can be sure they'll eat it before its flowers develop seeds.
It is native around here. So I enjoy it a lot. I spread the million seeds all around in hopes some of them would germinate.

Something is wrong with me. I’m cold and it’s over 30 degrees outside. Hopefully it goes away.
