What did you do in the garden today?

Today, I decided to let my 3 Ebay Isa Brown chicks out to play unsupervised. I have been throwing scratch next to their pen to let the older hens get acquainted with them for a few weeks. I hope the stray cats don't eat them. They are larger than the doves the cat prey on, and the cats know I am taking care of them.

I had a good experience hatching them and I worked out some of the problems I encountered with my portable brooder. I am looking forward to my September order for 15 Red Star chicks from McMurray Hatchery. I plan to cross them with this vigorous Isa Brown bloodline. The hatching eggs were very large; I hope these Isa Brown chicks lay the same size eggs.

Dehydrated eggs remind me of the DISGUSTING military meals, needless to say, I only lasted two weeks… I have no idea how my brother still works for the military after nine years of disgusting omelettes and tasteless schnitzel and leftover salads, and worst of all burned canned tuna.

Today I did some weeding
Usually I mix them with fresh for omelettes and quiche. I use them alone for the animals and baking.

I’m so behind on this thread. A lot has happened since my last post. I’ve been struggling with trying to get the yard and garden work caught up along with the delayed Spring cleaning. I’ve also been picking peas and wild black raspberries every day. I really need to process the peas and get them in the freezer. Saturday I was taking a big cardboard box out to the garage when I missed a step. I had a bad fall. I went to urgent care and got the head check. Tried to get the local ER to take a look and gave up on that. Tomorrow I get a CT scan and the X-rays the local hospital just couldn’t manage taken care of at the VA hospital in Boston. Trust me, the lump where I hit my head on the concrete floor was really big. I’ve been resting a lot but still doing the must do chores. Today was my first garden walk through the big garden and the gardens on the hill. My slicing tomatoes are starting to bloom. The pole beans are growing and climbing like crazy. The SM tomato plants look like they need fertilizing but the grapes are going well with the grapes getting bigger. I planted more curly kale last week and the seedlings are breaking through the soil. I’m looking forward to plant a short season acorn squash, some summer squash and pickling cucumbers at the beginning if next week. I’ll also be pulling the lettuce and planting chard as soon as I’m done with this medical stuff.

praying for you. get well soon.

Since so many people on here and recently myself, have had trouble with Ball canning lids sealing. I sent them a very detailed message about their lids being ineffective. They sent me this checklist of things they want to know to deter any further action. I was sent a list similar to this from FedEx 3 months ago and after nastily answering their 20 repetitive questions they said they weren't going to do anything anyway and contact Wal-Mart for a refund.
