What did you do in the garden today?

I planted some Black Seeded Simpson leaf lettuce seeds a few weeks back and it handles dry, hot weather surprisingly well. I haven't been watering it much and I've never seen it wilt during hot afternoons.
Will have to try that! I think my farm store still has some seeds available

The new 2025 hybrid variety of grape cherry tomato called Coral that I got from Hoss tools gave me a volunteer. It looks and grows like the original hybrid Coral. It supposed to be indeterminate, but it doesn't grow straight and tall, each branch seems to stop growing and send out a new side shoot, creating a sea coral appearance.

I got rid of all my kale plants and gave them to the chickens. I pulled 3 up roots and all, and cut off the other 4 leaving the roots in the ground to add organic matter to the soil.

I pruned the underside of 6 Roma tomato plants so that no leaves are touching the ground. Trimmed off a few more zucchini leaves too. I need to start tying them to the poles and training them up toward the sky.

I am really impressed with this Devil tree eggplant graft. It's easier to spray and prune when the branches are a distance off the ground. In addition, I am able to wrap a grafting tape around the stem and insect glue around the stem and support, so the ants can't mine aphids. I wonder how big the Black Beauty eggplant tree will get.

Try white clover in your yard, too. Not only does it draw the honeybees, but it crowds out the crabgrass and doesn't need constant mowing, like grass. Plus, the chickens LOVE it!
It also gives the local bunnies their preferred food so they won’t bother with your garden.
