What did you do in the garden today?

Three of my four tarragon twigs were still green so I moved them to a pot. (Surprisingly the dead one was one of the two I’d dipped in root hormone.) No visible roots on them though. Maybe tiny nodules, I couldn’t tell for sure.

Oh well, either they make it or they don’t!

Picked a bunch more tomatoes and green beans today, along with a green pepper and one pickling cuke.

Made 4 pints of salsa and 1 pint of crushed tomatoes. In the water bath now.

Got a bunch of fresh mangoes for $5 at the store. Chopped them up and put them in the freezer. Same with some whole bananas.

Currently making some cucumber chips and fruit syrup for my sodas.

I was looking at the sad state of one of my peach trees. It's fruit isn't ripe until August or September. Except it never seems to do well in the intense summer heat which causes it to drop most of its leaves and fruit. It's a Redhaven, I think. Just doesn't do well in this climate... Not expecting to get anything out of it.

Conversely, the other peach tree (Belle of Georgia) ripens in June before the heat really sets in... Got tons of peaches off of it.

It looked like some of my tomatoes are FINALLY starting to ripen. I’m going to tour a college so I won’t be home until Thursday night but hopefully I will have at least 1 cherry tomato ready to eat

I think I over-fertilized my tomato plants this year, huge vigorous foliage but not many tomatoes. I'll try to start more sugar snap peas, the rabbits are enjoying the spent vines for now.

Put up 4 pints of dill beans, and 1 quart jar of pickled jalapenos. Cleaned up the beds a little bit more, and starting some kale, romaine, turnip and mustard seed indoors. Just too hot to start fall seed outdoors right now.

Those are gourmet baby carrots! My carrots are also small but I'll leave them in the ground until late this fall. Once cooler weather and rain hits they should take off and grow a lot more.
