What did you do in the garden today?

I hate those things. I have started waiting until late June or first of July to plant squashes due to that. I have been spraying Bt and insecticidal soap for aphids and hope that helps. Also, I get lacewing eggs on a monthly subscription. I am no longer having to spray the soap as they seem to be doing their job.

Has anyone ever planted Sikkim cucumbers? They are my favorite 'weird' plant to try from Baker Creek and have become a staple. Even though the skins are brown and cracked it tastes nutty and amazing. So I don't skin them. They will be ready soon.

Also, the other one is a West India Burr cucumber. It is super stickery. How on earth do I eat that?

The first time I ordered from Baker Creek it was upwards of $200. I am still planting those seeds four years later.

@OnlySympathy go to rareseeds.com. They are amazing. My dream trip is to Missouri to visit their place. Every year we try and plant something strange and weird. White bitter melons have become a staple. Loofa and Tahiti butternut is growing on the trellis. We grew those huge Chinese snake gourds one year. They stink to high heaven but are cool. Kinda a cloying overly buttered popcorn smell but not in a good way.

I’m still sour that MIGardener is out of stock on most of the seeds I was looking at. My own fault; I should have kept better tabs on when their end of season sale was.

Wowzer, this board moves fast. So many wonderful comments and busy people.

@akroberts1085 it has been 40 plus years of building projects together, with me coming up with ideas and convincing him to help me, which is really me trying to be helpful. We still have our battles. I thought our rock solid marriage would end over nesting boxes.

Yesterday I trimmed the second Blue Dream, extremely pleased with buds and results on this one. Now I can coast until Sept and Oct before harvesting the big ones (8 to go).

It is gonna hit the 100s so garden shed building may be slowed down. Last year my husband went through 9 weeks of chemo and radiation. As much as he hates it, he can't work like he used to, nor do I want him to.

The mess around the garden and chicken coop/run is driving me nuts. I can't stand clutter. This garden shed is very much welcome and turning out way better than I imagined. View attachment 4190222View attachment 4190223

Oh don’t forget the 8 venomous snakes I had to catch by hand at the same time before safely releasing them into my neighbors house

Picked the beets right before the rain began..canned pickle beets and the carrots I pulled night before. It's once again a cool day here which is still crazy strange. This week d we are supposed to be in the mid 90's.. it's been awesome airing the house out!

Too pollen laden, and dusty out here with haying to even bother opening the house.

Spent the morning doing outside odds and ends and tying up some 8 foot tall tomato plants. I had no more 10 foot Tpost to add more cattle panel, so I just wove them left and right across the top.

I still need to trim the Lovage.

Worked on the shed, worked on the vents, worked on bits and bobs, all waiting for the dew to burn off the pasture so I can mow the last two acres for the week. Sick on being mowing machinery.

But at least it's nice out for a change, eh @Justagalwithchicks ?

I just barely survived the quick sand thanks to Red Bull giving me wings. And oh the crocodiles… oh those poor crocodiles did not have red bull to save them when I threw them in the quick sand
