What did you do in the garden today?

Do you like cantaloupe as much as you do watermelon? And why did you harvest so many at once?
Cantaloupe is better than watermelon to me, but both are good. We harvested them all at once because they all indicated they were ready. Last year I gave them extra time on the vine even after they appeared ready and they ended up pithy.

Ya - I have 3 and my LO thinking she may want to join them.

I am too old for this craziness!

And yesterday the brats managed to stick their heads through the fencing and snag the one ripening tomato that I have! Oh they will eat the green ones also. And the leaves and stalks - pretty much just destroy the tomatoes if given a chance. But really - my only ripening one? Brats all of them!
Our chickens won’t even look at tomatoes…….unless we hand feed them to them. In fact, they pretty much turn their beaks up at all garden scraps except for cantaloupe, watermelon, and blueberries, they don’t even show any interest in Strawberries. So far, we sort of let them run the garden without them doing any pilfering.

I picked four more pickling cucumbers and inspected the undersides of the leaves looking for bug eggs. I didn't find any more today. Guess I'll start looking for bug eggs on a regular basis. Should probably be looking under the zucchini leaves too.

I think I'll make sliced dill pickles next time. Dill chips I think they're called. I'll can them in the short half-pint large mouth canning jars I bought. It'll take a lot less boiling water to process them compared to processing taller pint jars.
