What did you do in the garden today?

The longest the area I live in has gone without rain in around 30 years is 16 days. We are currently at day 15. That doesn’t sound bad compared to a lot of you guys but all the saplings and plants in the woods are suffering pretty bad and a lot look like they are starting to die. I also never had to worry about soil going hydrophobic but a lot of mine has and it is such a pain

Everything keeps breaking today. I had to attempt to fix this after the first time I used it. It was sitting in my grandma’s basement for at least 20 years so I can’t say it’s surprising but still was annoying. Nothing a random stick couldnt fix though

@TJAnonymous, I am very happy with the seeds. I was super surprised when I got them in the mail. I still have some seeds left and I plan on getting them in the garden I just need to decide where to put them.

Really humid today. Hot next 3 days. Picked 3 cukes and looked for tomato worms. None found. Rain missed me today.

That's a puzzle to me. Looks like someone threw cornmeal on it with the plant was wet. But my guess is some kind of fungus. Only one plant?

Not anything scientifically controlled... Some seeds...like onions and cukes...had zero germination. Most, if not all, of the melons and watermelon germinated because they were sown in individual cells. But it's harder to gauge things that were direct sown like carrots, lettuce, etc... I had stuff that grew but I couldn't say what percentage of the seeds were viable.

Onion seeds don't last long at all and have poor germination at just a couple years old. Another thing about old seeds is that even though they germinate the plants may not have the vigor that plants grown from fresh seeds would have. I've noticed that with zucchini seeds that were a few years old. The plants just didn't seem to want to grow.

Another day in the 90s here and it's affected my well. I was watering my garden and the pump shut off because the water level dropped below the pump.

I think I need to have my well casing cleaned up because it seems to refill slowly if it's ran down. Does anyone have experience at getting a slow filling well fixed?

We got probably an inch of rain today. It came in 3 installments. The first was a nice, gentle 1/4". The second was a pounding 1/4" and the third was a hard 1/2." I'm sure it knocked some things over/down, but they'll come back. Probably. Hubby will need to do some road repair on the driveway. Lots of gravel went down the hill.

I found the first two New Hampshire pullet eggs today. I think they're both from the same pullet, with the smaller one being the first laid.

I haven't been really paying attention to looking for eggs lately since my barred rocks have been giving me only one or two a week. Now that the NHs have started I won't have to buy eggs for a while. I'm excited!

And they're definitely not from my older barred rock hens. They are half the size and the shells are perfectly formed. The old ladies lay some odd looking eggs.

Picked some tomatoes
Watered everything in pots
And I took a picture of a dipping gourd

Is there any wood above this plant? Could it be a bug boring and kicking out sawdust? It has happened to me...
