What did you do in the garden today?

I got a female blossom on one of my melon plants! 🎉 I attempted to hand-pollinate with a Q-tip - there’s been a fair amount of bee activity around those plants but I’m paranoid and impatient. I’m new to growing melons, how long will it take to see if it ‘took’ and form a proper melon if it did? It’s a cantaloupe/muskmelon.

Squash is still looking sickly, I fertilized it again. Right now I’m not holding high hopes that it does anything this year though. 😔
Within a couple of days it will start to shrivel if not pollinated. Hope you get a big melon to enjoy!

Virginia stickseed, stick tight or Begger's lice. some of its names.

I barely got a handful of green beans this morning. I picked a few black beans and 5 ripe chocolate cherry tomatoes. I brought one of the slicing tomatoes that have been clinging to the vine for about a month now inside to see if will finally ripen. I staked up the tomato plants in case we actually get a heavy storm over night. I gave the SM tomatoes on the hill a good drink. Cooler temperatures start tomorrow so I’m planning on planting some fall greens. I haven’t had home grown lettuce in a while. It should be safe to plant bok choy as well. Fingers crossed.

2 weeks ago. Soaked some black beans overnight to prepare for cooking. A few went overboard when they were rinsed. Landed unnoticed in a dish in the sink that was soaking. The following day emptied the dish to scrub. Saw the beans. They were sprouting. Put them in old yogurt containers with some garden soil and sat them in full sun next to the grow bags of potatoes. They're ready to go in the ground.
