What did you do in the garden today?

I empathize with you and your spouse. Most jobs I go to don't require the thick class FR, but one time I had to and worked on a rooftop when it was 108. I had my back to the sun and my pants were loose enough that my calves weren't touching the fabric. My pant leg would touch my skin and actually burn me. I try to avoid working in the field when it's hot like this. My boss does it a lot more than me, he's a trooper. He had to work for two weeks on a huge site in Blythe in the summer a few years back. Not fun. We don't touch high voltage gear but we're close enough sometimes that it's a little nerve wracking. I've worked in some DC combiner boxes and inverters that made me nervous. Working next to live conductors that you can't turn off is my least favorite thing, ever.

Congratulations on the chicken fence!

The fires can be bad but it still isn't a deal breaker for us. I just wish people would stop being stupid and causing the fires. Trailer chains, cigarette butts.... You would think people would care more about the risk.
Wow, I have been to Blythe. Is it ever under 100 there? You would understand what my husband is doing then, they are nearing the end of an HDVC converter station. He is at the western end this week near Casa Grande. The eastern end is close to Clines Corner, NM. His company's construction side is building and he is on operations. He is over the whole shitterie as he calls it when done but integral in the building part. In between the stations there is over 500 miles of transmission lines, substations, boosters etc.

I grew up on a dry land cotton farm in Texas. I am an early bird, literally wide awake every single morning of my life at 5 AM. I get up early and work until noon or I can stand it, then shade up all afternoon, and work late evenings. He is a night owl. I still haven't convinced him when he is here to do the same. He says is conditioning for AZ.

It is great you are not letting it get you down!

Woke up around 4:45 am today, couldn't get back to sleep so I just laid in bed and got an insane headache. I haven't really done anything with the garden for a few days but I have to get out there and get some more weeding done so that I can find all the squash that's there. They got so over grown that I can't really see them. Just another day in the life of a gardener. Happy gardening to everyone

Thick, smelly smoke hung in the dense fog this morning. I don't know who was burning what but holy crap. I went out to feed the livestock, so 20 minutes TOPS, and I came in and broke out in a fiery red rash on all my exposed skin. I felt like I was sitting within inches of a heat lamp.
I washed off and it was gone within half an hour.
Great googlie mooglie. I know I'm sensitive, but dang!

Fyi that gourd is edible. Look up Cucuzzi gourd. Same family. That long neck is edible when young. They used to grow a watermelon shaped one commercially. The flesh was candied and part of a cheaper candied fruit mix. They now use citron.
