dry them, make a powder and give some to the chickens in winter. they will be healthy and lay in winter.

Last season was the first time I'd dug and stored them. I had lost most of them the season before, from a very cold and wet winter, which rotted the bulbs. Most of these I bought from a local seller last year. I may not dig them this year, but put a shelter over the bed so it doesn't get so wet, but we'll see.I love dahlias... They are just gorgeous. But I've had little luck getting bulbs to overwinter. I've dug them up and tried leaving them in the ground. With a couple of exceptions, they've simply not made it through the winter here. I've pretty much accepted that I have to treat them as annuals.
Sorry to hear that you broke your foot.Nothing whatsoever. I broke my foot 3 days ago so I'm housebound in a boot.I do have some help, especially with watering and harvesting things. I missed 2 days and the zucchini multiplies like they're rabbits. So happy to have lovely tomatoes this year, bound for the sauce pot, and BLTs.
