What did you do in the garden today?

I turned the remaining apples from my tree into applesauce. Only 3 1/2 half pint jars. I had previously made 4 cups of cooked apples with the early ones that fell off the tree. Not too bad for the very first harvest.

I forgot to mention that my giant daisy bush is full of buds. I’m hoping it actually blooms this year. It has overtaken my BES shrub so I will replant that next Spring.

Yeah I was supposed to get some rain last night too and all that materialized was dew.

Cairns, Australia just copped over 300mm, and they hardly need it.

I went to Bj’s a couple of weeks ago to stock up on tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. That was to replace what I should have harvested. While I was re-arranging my canned goods cabinet I did a little inventory. I still have 4 jars of green tomato salsa verde and 3 jars of regular salsa leftover from last year. That made me feel a little better. I also have a lot of pickles left. My cucumber plants are struggling to produce some cucumbers but I don’t see me making pickles this year unless I buy the cucumbers again this year. I don’t plan on freezing anymore fruit so I can pack my freezer with meat and potatoes. Already have a lot of green beans and peas in there.

I hope next year you have bumper crops in your garden! Salsa Verde is the best. Just finished taco soup for dinner and we always put a huge dallop of it on the sour cream in the bowl..

Did some garden cleanup today. Cut cornstalks down for decorating. Picked a lot of green beans, peppers, carrots. Cut all my celery down and processed it all in food saver bags for the winter. We make a lot of soup etc so it will be good for that. It was a good celery year. I moved them this year to partial shade, so maybe that's the ticket.

I am going to try and either lay my figs over and cover them up, or built some kind of protective tent around them this year. They come back every year, but takes most of the year for them to do so.

That little buggers days of being a domestic terrorist is over now. Now maybe he'll get to join the group and not be able to get to the garden.
